As a local business, we wanted to let you know about the Leading Enterprise and Development (LEAD) programme of business support designed around the needs of SME owner-managers.  It is relevant for individuals who feel they would benefit from professional development support in leadership, management and growth.

LEAD concentrates on two areas:  the business itself and the personal development of the owner-manager.  The programme is made up of several elements which run alongside each other over a 10 month period, including Business & Leadership masterclasses delivered by industry experts, action learning, coaching, peer shadowing, work exchange and an online forum.

LEAD is specifically aimed at companies with up to 50 employees and is designed to equip owner-managers with the skills and abilities they need to increase profits, capitalise on new opportunities and make the most of their existing resources, both internal and external.  Since its inception, over 150 business owner-managers have benefited from this 10 month leadership programme and there are a further 230 delegates currently in the process of graduating.  Research from the Lancaster pilot of the LEAD programme shows that businesses who took part in LEAD benefited from a significant increase in sales turnover – an average of £200k - and improved staff productivity.

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has selected the University of Salford as just one of 13 providers of LEAD throughout the region, and we wanted to offer you an opportunity to take part in our third LEAD cohort which is starting in September 2010.    We are allowed a maximum of 25 delegates per cohort, so talk to us now if you are interested.

LEAD is a high value programme supported by the NWDA resulting in the maximum cost to each participant of £2000.  Owner-managers who employ between five and 999 employees may be eligible for funding towards the cost of the programme via the Train to Gain: Leadership and Management Advisory Service.
