About the Role

Do you know that more than 70% of the time people spend looking for their next car is on Auto Trader? Or that our platforms support thousands of retailers to sell millions of cars each year? We’re on a mission to make buying and selling cars an easy, straight-forward, and enjoyable process for everyone.

We are looking for a talented User Researcher to co-ordinate product and user research with our retailer audiences – ranging from individual business owners to multinational listed companies. You’ll have a genuine passion for portraying the perspective of users, to solve their real challenges and ensure our products meet their needs

You’ll be bold, bring new ideas to the table, and build relationships to empower teams to make early informed product decisions, and contribute to an environment where user research and testing are central to the way we work.

You’ll work with our researchers and others in small, multi-disciplinary teams to identify and deliver research, from exploratory discovery research through early validation of concepts onto usability testing of products and learning from beta programmes. This is a hands-on role, where you’ll both be designing and executing research where we need the depth of your skills & experience, as well as supporting and mentoring others to do better research for themselves.

You will also have overall responsibility for our customer panel and the recruitment of participants for research. You will nurture productive relationships with our retailers, ensuring they are representative users for the relevant product areas.

We have a range of tools to support quantitative and qualitative research in various forms as well as engaged product management and design communities. So, while you’ll have a great springboard, we’re also looking for someone who wants to shape how we can improve our user research and its impact into the future.

What we're looking for

  • Experience designing, carrying out, analysing, and sharing qualitative and quantitative user research using a variety of methods
  • Experience working directly with product teams to influence the research required and carried out, and the impact that research has on products
  • Comfortable representing and evangelising user research needs and user perspectives with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and supporting people in other roles to design, carry out, and analyse user research more effectively
  • You’ll have worked in an environment where you have been proactive in your approach when it comes to solving problems and finding solutions rather than waiting for the work to come to you
  • You’ll be commercially aware in terms of understanding the cost and value of different approaches, and able to prioritise accordingly

While not essential it would be great if you had any experience of the following

  • Contributed to or shaped research operations, such as repeatable approaches & templates, participant recruitment & panel management, tool evaluation & selection, knowledge repositories, and so on.
  • Experience working with B2B audiences

Benefits and more

We offer a competitive salary plus private healthcare, 28 days holiday, plus half-day office closures on both Christmas and New Year's Eve, pension and lots of extras that you can personalise to suit your lifestyle.

We are taking a phased return to our offices over the next few months, and they are currently open to our employees voluntarily. We have a range of flexible working options available, which our resourcing team are happy to discuss with you.

All assessments will continue to take place virtually, and we can make reasonable adjustments to our assessment process according to your needs.
