The Role:

You will work in the Cabinet Office - Central Digital Data Office, Securing Government Services team as a Technical Specialist Architect working across government with senior stakeholders and experts across digital disciplines, and with those involved in building digital services across all government departments and agencies.

The Central Data and Digital Office (CDDO) is part of the Cabinet Office and leads the Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) function for government.

This is a crucial role that will enable and support the public sector (government departments, local government and police) to move away from the Public Services Network legacy network and onto modern ways of working (Cloud services). The programme is a catalyst for legacy change and digital transformation across the public sector, producing major benefits to move from the legacy network such as improved cyber security risk, improved cost, improved maintainability and improved User needs.

One of your main responsibilities will be to ensure that the Program Board and Technical Policy Working Group have regular updates, ensuring data is accurate, informed and consistent. You'll also oversee user strategy engagement, focussing on engagement across the Public Services Network community. You’ll be developing technical migration options and working with Crown Commercial Services to develop commercial frameworks.

You'll gain an understanding of what organisations’ technical challenges are and help to identify issues and opportunities with migration plans across the Public Services Network community.

As a Technical Specialist Architect, at GDS you'll:

  • identify and advise on major blockers to migration and identify solution options
  • Contribute to case studies of successful migrations
  • extend reporting to cover the entire Public Services Network community
  • work with a number of departments to support them through their technical architecture improvements
  • collaborate with and provide advice to departmental teams on technical architecture - strong relationship management will be required to influence stakeholders
  • produce briefings and reports, to inform senior departmental assurance/governance decisions and escalate blockers

Skills and expertise:

It’s essential that you have:

  • Experience of Technical Architecture in networking
  • Network specialist skills and are familiar with current and future trends in the network marketplace including security
  • Expertise of working with multiple government departments, agencies and public sector organisations and their I.T service providers
  • Expertise of working across several networking platforms and vendors
  • Solutions architecture experience on how infrastructure, applications and systems integrate with one another and how markets’ trends can compliment legacy architecture
  • An understanding in detail of how the Public Services Network works across government from a technical perspective

We’re also looking for people with strong interpersonal and technical skills who enjoy working in an outcome-focused, agile environment. We’re looking for candidates who care about technology and who know how to make projects succeed, and constructively enable people to take ownership of their obligations for security and identifying issues or risks.
