As a DevOps Engineer you will be responsible for the design and implementation of applications' build, release, deployment and configuration activities.

Other responsibilities include working within multi-functional teams to gather requirements, evaluate tools, implementing/updating solutions, building and executing test plans, provision environments, application performance reviews, assist migration of legacy systems, and triaging and fixing operational issues.

You will be involved in building, managing and updating a shared Kubernetes platform, as well as creating reusable pipelines for automated testing and deployment.

Job description

In your day-to-day role as a DevOps Engineer, you will:

  • Transform technical requirements into an effective DevOps toolchain to enable product delivery, assure and implement deployment strategies and apply different techniques to methods in analysing and resolving problems, working up new practices and procedures or modify existing processes to improve performance;
  • Resolve issues to ensure citizen-facing services are repeatable, scalable, resilient and highly available;
  • Communicate with a range of people, inside the Department to produce comprehensive technical documentation for wider consumption;
  • Work across a number of section and support product teams to write code that is simple and flexible to build, configure and deploy;
  • Contribute to community discussions about DevOps best practice within Engineering;
  • Collaborate across teams and liaise with Lead/Senior DevOps Engineers and Technical Architects to investigate technical solutions
  • Contribute toward a DevOps culture and automation best practices.

Technology Services provide the foundations upon which digital services for DWP are developed and operate. Our purpose is to deliver secure, effective and cost-efficient digital infrastructure services and to run live IT operations that support DWP business objectives. We do this by putting users and quality of service at the heart of what we do.

Our team is made up of 1,500 colleagues working collaboratively across 10 portfolio-led teams in a fast-moving environment. Our teams deliver an end-to-end suite of digital products and services that support DWP colleagues and citizens in an ever-evolving technology landscape. 4. Exploiting and enhancing hybrid cloud services. We provide hybrid cloud services that balance on-premise and public cloud to offer true platform independence and optimum price performance.

5. Protecting and securing our services. We ensure our IT systems remain secure and available, resilient to natural and human-caused disaster – ensuring citizens always have access to our key services.

6. Developing our people, capability and skills. We have created a sustainable service by developing our people, bringing key skills in-house to DWP, giving our teams professional pathways to develop and opportunities to progress within Technology Services.
