Infrastructure Engineer

The Desktop team is responsible for all the elements of the Department’s Desktop and Software deployment, configuration, security, and continued roadmap development.

This primarily involves the management and implementation of Microsoft Evergreen strategies for key technologies using Cloud technologies, Configuration Manager and Windows 10, but also includes several other supporting infrastructure components such as device control software, packaging and deployment of Business Applications, supporting Live BAU operations and implementing Quality Control measures and Technical Assurance elements to deliver defect free products to the end user.

The Desktop team is also the owners of the service, and thus accountable for all day-to-day operational change and project related design elements. We own the Desktop roadmap and have a multi-year plan to deliver an enhanced service, with several long-term pieces of work ongoing.

Job description

We are looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to work with our team which has recently expanded to take ownership & control of the Desktop services from a long-term supplier.

Our aim is to provide a modern, reliable, and flexible service that allows simple, secure access for deployment and management of modern desktop devices, using industry best practice for:

- Microsoft Configuration Manager, WSUS, Intune, Autopilot, Cloud technologies

- Windows 10 Builds and continued updates aligning with Evergreen

- Supporting Desktop Technologies to allow seamless integration to the whole End User Desktop experience

Alongside this the successful candidate would also be involved in Engineering, testing products and changes heavily to cover End to End Technical Assurance, and Project deliver requirements to aide in the Support and Administration of:

-Windows 10 Enterprise

-Autopilot and Task Sequence

-ConfigMgr, WSUS and Intune

- Azure AD

- Software Distribution using SCCM and Intune

- Business and AS Applications

- User and Device management

- Build, Support and Maintain Windows Desktop and Server environment

- Test Infrastructure changes, business applications, and new technologies adopted by the organisation
