Manhattan Partners are the exclusive North West partner of the most exciting and distinguished international consultancy with offices across Manchester, London and Barcelona.
What an incredible time for them at the moment! They are a fast-growing company and are currently expanding their Manchester office! They care deeply about doing things the right way and are looking for a forward-thinking Principal Software Engineer who wants to utilize their varied skills across different stacks and cloud technologies to join the fantastic team.
Your aspirations are nurtured here. You may aspire to become an effective advisor, an inspirational mentor, a skilled coder, an exceptional architect, a renowned technologist, a cloud solutions expert, an emphatic facilitator, or a visionary leader - you will be provided with the help, training, and support to take leaps in your professional journey.
The company was founded in 2013, but originally began as an idea born in 2010 - a very strong community of programmers with a passion for well-crafted software and XP practices and values. The community spirit and culture carries on, and is at the core of the company. You can see this with frequent internal sessions run by members of the team, where they learn from and share knowledge with each other.
The Manchester team is headed up by the Regional Director (North, UK) who recently joined in 2020. Their mission is growing the team and building partnerships across the North West. As a Principal Engineer you will be working very closely alongside the Regional Director, helping to drive innovation through a holistic strategy involving technology, systems & best practices. The team sits at around 13 engineers across different levels.
The team supports their client base in many ways and you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of different internal and client projects. Perhaps you’ll work on a client project from the Manchester office with a delivery approach. This may be a greenfield project for a startup, or helping to build a mission-critical system for a large enterprise client. Or, perhaps you’ll work as an embedded software engineer, working within a client's existing development team to help them to get better at writing their own software.
Wary of consultancies because of the bad rep on excessive travel? The team is working remotely currently due to Covid-19. As things start to return to normal, any travel would be restricted to the main office branch based in Manchester. This company is not your typical consultancy and won’t be asking you to travel all over the place! Any client work that is outside of Manchester would be undertaken remotely.
The Role & Projects:
As a Principal Software Engineer you’re the most senior person in the software engineering team, and as Manchester is a new growing office you will be required to wear several hats within the team. You will be leaned on to bring in your technological expertise at different stages of winning new business and will accompany the Regional Director in those exciting software solution-driven meetings!
The clients they help vary from eCommerce, Healthcare to FinTech. Projects vary also, for example complex refactoring or massive scaling and transformation projects.
Why You Should Apply:
Transparency - salary bandings and company finances are available to everyone from day one.
Autonomy - got an idea? Form an Initiative Circle, take ownership, run with it, and see it through to delivery.
Personal Learning Budget - Access to Learnerbly, an online learning & development tool, to support your personal development and career progression.
Training - No fixed training budget. So long as the course is relevant to the company and you'll do a lightning talk on the subject, they’re happy to pay for it.
Books - Found something interesting to read that doesn’t already live in their digital library? They’ll cover book expenses - and ask to read it after you as well!
Life cover and private medical - A ‘Lump Sum’ payment for life cover. Private medical cover including dental.
