Working within an Agile environment you will take a key role within the business as a Software Engineering Manager. You will be responsible for providing leadership to the Software team with particular reference to deploying a structured approach to the required engineering activities, the development of efficient ways of working, including individual and team development
The successful candidate will report directly to the UK Software Engineering Director to define, support and/or commence execution of software engineering management activities on a range of projects in various phases of the life-cycle. Some projects will be in need of external help and expertise to maintain/regain schedule/technical baseline, You will take a lead role in this.
In addition to leading software engineering activities, the role shall also participate in (and in some cases) lead tiger team reviews in support of bids and projects and therefore must be able to balance the demands of SW excellence (Craftsmanship) with strong practical engineering delivery ability.

Working collaboratively within and across various teams, often in a complex matrixed and multi-stakeholder environment.
Defining and managing the software engineering activities at various levels of projects including identifying the people and skills needed to ensure delivery and for driving delivery through appropriate governance.
Production and maintenance of management plans such as Software Engineering Management Plan (SMP).
Developing and maintaining customer/stakeholder relations both inside and outside of the organization and will be required to actively seek information to understand customer/stakeholder circumstances, problems, expectations and needs.
Define the software development cycle, and define the process, practices and tools applicable to the product based on project specific constraints (e.g. tools imposed by the Customer).
Required to ensure global consistency of the engineering process, practices and tools, organise the co-engineering and potentially approve lower level solution elements’ or components’
Team player with a sharp intellect, challenging approach and a “can do attitude”.
Significant experience in execution of the full software engineering lifecycle (both traditional and agile) – including operational deployment knowledge with modern development practices and tools .
Experience of multi-stakeholder change management activities in a complex environment
Experience of delivering software in the context of system level and system of systems programmes
An understanding of the exploitation of Architectural modelling techniques.
