Digital Product Owner
£40,000 - £50,000 plus benefits (Grade E16)
Manchester city centre / remote

We’re currently working remotely due to Covid. The future will see us working in a hybrid way, with a mixture of home and office working.

We’re looking for a digital product owner to join us at Co-op and provide our teams with the information they need when creating new and innovative digital products. You’ll be working in a team that looks after one of our business areas, such as Food or Funeralcare, but you’ll have lots of opportunities for exposure to all the different Co-op businesses. We’re using new technology to create better experiences for our customers, members, and colleagues. In this role you’ll help to support our digital operations, so we can continue to respond to the needs of our communities.

As a digital product owner, we’ll look to you to combine design, technology, research and data with the needs of our users, to create an understanding of how we can build products that are user-friendly, accessible and can add real value to our businesses. You’ll be working with multidisciplinary teams and provide information that our designers and developers will use to enhance our award-winning suite of products. This role is a great development opportunity to grow into a product manager in the future. If you can bring us the inquisitive nature and excellent people skills that we need, we can offer you the chance to learn new skills and use digital to make a real difference.

What you’ll do

•    collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to draw user flows and interactions
• take an active role in user research, empathising with and advocating for the needs of our users in everything we do and balancing this with the needs and constraints of the business
• find insights in data, research and experiments to understand and identify opportunities and measure benefits delivered
• make sure your cross-functional team continuously delivers value to our customers and business
• become a specialist in your product, understand and articulate the problems it's trying to solve and the detail that underpins the work being delivered
• facilitate sessions to understand the next opportunity / customer need and break it down into prioritised pieces of work, aligned to the product objectives
•    actively participate in your community of practice, continually growing and sharing your skills and knowledge

This role would suit people who have

•    experience working as a product owner or agile business analyst
• keen eye for detail and a knack for simplifying and explaining complicated concepts
• proven experience in internal business transformation or process optimisation, within an agile working environment
• the ability to collaborate with people across different areas and levels of the business, appreciating different opinions but valuing data and research most of all
• the confidence to challenge and take a risk to discover a better way of doing things
• a hardworking and enthusiastic approach to work
•    an ongoing desire to learn and develop new skills

Why Co-op?

Here you’ll do work that matters. We’re a commercial organisation with a purpose beyond profit, you’ll have an opportunity to help us build a stronger Co-op and stronger communities. You’ll also get a package that includes:

•    competitive salary
• coaching, training and support to help you develop
• pension with up to 10% employer contributions
• annual incentive scheme
• 28 days holiday (rising to 32 in line with service)
•    discounts on Co-op products and services

Building an inclusive work environment

We’re actively building diverse teams and welcome applications from everyone. But simply having a diverse workforce is not enough. We aim to build an inclusive environment, where everyone can contribute their best work and develop to their full potential. We celebrate our differences and recognise the importance of teams reflecting the communities they serve.

We can make reasonable adjustments to our interview process according to your needs. And we offer a flexible working environment, so you can adjust your hours to suit your personal circumstances. You can find out more about Co-op people policies at coop.co.uk/people policies.

As part of your application you’ll need to complete an online assessment. It will take you around 12 minutes to complete this test.
