Status for settled EU citizens and their families

If you’re an EU citizen, you and your family will be able to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021.

The Government believe the EU Settlement Scheme will open fully by 30 March 2019. The deadline for applying will be 30 June 2021. More detail can be found here. There will be no fee for applying

Policy paper on EU citizens' rights in the UK in the event of a no deal Brexit

The Government has published a policy paper explaining what would happen to citizens’ rights in the event of the UK leaving the EU without a deal. The paper covers both EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in the EU.

Immigration White Paper published that aims to support tech sector

The Immigration White Paper was published in Dec 2018, with a 12 month consultation period now open. The full document can be viewed here.

In the past 12 months, the government has already taken the following actions to support the tech sector:

Doubled the number of Tier 1 Exceptional Talent visas to 2,000.

Announced a new Start-Up Visa for entrepreneurs. This will replace a visa route exclusively for graduates, opening it up to other talented business founders. Organisations like accelerators will act as endorsing bodies. It will launch in Spring 2019.

Post-Brexit access to finance

The UK, as it leaves the EU, is continuing to explore options for a future relationship with EIBG.

If no future relationship with the EIBG is in place before the UK leaves the EU on 29 March 2019, the government will provide the British Business Bank with the resources to enable it to make up to £200 million of additional investment in UK venture capital and growth finance in 2019-20.
