Ofcom has an office in Manchester and the CMA is due to open one later this year, and this conference will be an opportunity to meet the teams and learn about current debates on topics in competition and regulation affecting digital sectors.
Highlights include:
- Keynote from Amelia Fletcher, Professor of Competition Policy, Non-Executive Director on the CMA’s board, and a member of the government-commissioned Digital Competition Expert Panel.
- Panel discussions covering the role of behavioural insights in helping us to understand harms online and shape interventions; how we make sure digital regulators can balance policy goals including competition, online safety, privacy and media plurality; and how technology developments such as algorithmic recommendation systems should shape our understanding of harms online and how we tackle them.
Speakers include Melanie Dawes (Ofcom’s CEO), Sarah Cardell (the CMA’s forthcoming CEO) and Gill Whitehead (DRCF CEO); who will be joined by panel members representing universities in Manchester; digital companies; and Ofcom and the CMA’s online and digital teams.
