Job summary
As a Senior Delivery Manager you will be responsible for leading Agile teams, working on user centred business/service digital products, to lead and enable a multi-disciplinary team through multiple phases and ensure that the team is motivated and clear on their priorities through management of Azure Dev Ops boards and regular communication. The Senior Delivery Manager will ensure clarity of scope, manage blockers/issues and have experience of delivering services in an agile environment.
This role requires the interpersonal skills to establish professional credibility quickly and the energy and drive to deliver collaborative change. You will join a flourishing, supportive digital community helping HSE lead, drive and deliver significant change across the organisation, as part of a challenging transformation and change portfolio.
Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Job description
The Senior Delivery Manager will report directly to the Deputy Director, Head of Digital and you will be responsible for the following:
- Establishing and maintaining the best methods of delivery and setting standards and expectations (frequency of stand-ups, regular reporting etc) used across all digital teams.
- Dealing tactfully but firmly with ambiguity and conflict and help establish a team culture that allows for constructive criticism.
- Managing plans, risks, issues and dependencies with effective escalation where necessary, owning them until they are resolved.
- Onward reporting of progress at Project/Programme governance
- Actively manage change and governance activity, working closely with other programme/project colleagues
- Working with stakeholders to ensure all interdependencies are jointly owned and managed between parties.
- Helping develop and utilise meaningful metrics and visualisations to measure progress and provide reassurance that the project remains on track and taking steps where progress has slowed to remove blockers and get delivery moving again, escalating where appropriate.
- Owning and building relationships with the technical teams, Product Owners, and senior stakeholders and ensuring there is two-way communication between teams in order to set and achieve shared goals.

We’re looking for someone who can do the hands-on delivery of products and end to end services and see them through from initiation to live. You will be a true leader who steers from the front and who removes blockers and creates the right environment for the multidisciplinary team to succeed. You will use your agile expertise to build a culture of continuous improvement and promote user-centred design, applying it to the software development lifecycle.
You will solve cross-cutting problems and use your experience of delivery to get the job done, utilising experts on a day to day basis in engineering, business process design, user research, user experience design, operations and policy. In addition, you will share best practice, insight and support with other talented colleagues in the Digital Team and wider.
Essential Skills and Criteria:
- Experience of leading the delivery of digital products and service standards.
- Experience of delivering products and services at pace in an agile environment and creating the environment for success.
- Experience of working with other digital, data and technology (DDaT) roles, job families and professions in a multi-disciplined team as well as a good understanding of agile principles and practices.
- Experience of having successfully lead teams through the full product life cycle, optimising the delivery flow of teams and identifying innovative ways to unblock issues across or between all stages of the product life cycle.
- Evidence of leading a continual planning process in a very complex environment, plan beyond product delivery and delivery of sustainable, supportable digital products/services.
- Translating technical terms and facilitating relationships with business stakeholders.
- Communicating in a straightforward, honest, and engaging manner with the ability to understand, empathise with, negotiate and influence individuals, stakeholders and groups, ultimately able to promote a healthy team culture, managing team dynamics and fostering a continuous improvement environment.
- Experience of meeting the needs of users across a variety of channels, bringing insight and expertise to ensure user needs are met by the business.
