We’re looking for outstanding Senior DevOps Engineers, who want to contribute to demanding and exciting digital services that help and support our UK citizens.

The products we build are the changing the face of public services with the potential to dramatically transform the future of millions of people.

We’re looking for driven and passionate Senior DevOps Engineers who would like to be part of teams delivering real value to people that need help during the difficult times of their lives.

You will be a technical leader with opportunities to develop capabilities and further improve standard and practices across the organisation. You may have some team or line management responsibility for less experienced DevOps Engineers.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will contribute to our community ensuring that DWP and our DevOps practices evolve in line with technology advances.

16 million people in the UK have a health condition or disability.  Our development teams at DWP Digital - Health and Disability build secure solutions that transform and enable responsive services for people with disabilities and health conditions to access the help, advice and financial support they need.

The Cloud infrastructure team within Health and Disability is a platform and enabling team based primarily at Newcastle and Leeds hubs with specialist skilling that centrally develops and maintains a secure, scalable and flexible application platform and a data & analytics platform to meet the needs of our development teams, colleagues and citizens.

We do this to reduce cognitive load on individual Health development teams to allow those teams reclaim time and energy that can be spent on developing great products and services.

We’re looking for outstanding Senior DevOps Engineers, who want to contribute to demanding and exciting digital services that help and support our UK citizens.

The products we build are the changing the face of public services with the potential to dramatically transform the future of millions of people.

Please note this role requires you to pass Security Check clearance. For further information, please see 'Selection process details'.

Job description

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will be using modern tooling to develop CI/CD pipelines and DevOps toolchains where you will strive to put automation at the heart of everything you do.

Your initial focus will centre on our Azure data platform.  However, you will be crafting, implementing and enabling solutions across both application and data platforms that are highly available, resilient, scalable, extensible, and maintainable within multiple cloud environments.

Working across the organisation you will be pushing a mindset change to foster engineering ownership, and the importance of the integrity and maintenance of the services we deliver.

Other responsibilities will include working across product-focussed teams to gather requirements, evaluate tools, implementing/updating solutions, provisioning environments, and assisting with operational issues

As part of the role, you will be required to travel regularly to the other digital hubs, specifically Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where the DevOps team are based. The frequency of this will be discussed further should you be successful.

Person specification

When giving details in your CV you should highlight your experience in line with essential criteria below:

  • LEAD CRITERION- Demonstrable experience of developing and supporting AWS and/or Azure cloud-based applications.
