Our Level 4 Software Developer programme is about tech employers spotting your potential.

It is designed to train a limited and carefully selected group of learners each year who can demonstrate the right attitude and aptitude for becoming excellent software developers.

If selected, you'll be hired by well-known tech companies and brands and undertake the Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship.

This year we are recruiting for positions with employers across the North West, Leeds and Bristol.

You do not have to have experience however a willingness to learn and demonstration of self-learning is essential to success.

How it works

Applications are open annually between January and June. If your application is shortlisted we will be in touch during the week 5-9th of July for a short virtual interview. Candidates will then be invited to attend an assessment and selection day which will be held on Tuesday 27th July. If you successfully secure a paid place on the programme, it will start employment and training 20th September 2021.

Salary 

While on the training programme as a software developer apprentice, salaries range from £18,000 to £23,000. 

This will vary from employer to employer hiring through the programme. 

Once qualified, you will be a junior software developer. 

According to our Skills Audit, salaries for junior software developers are on average approximately £20,000-27,000.  

 The programme

The programme starts in September and runs for 24 months, with 18 months of supported training while you undertake paid full-time work with your employer. 

  • You will attend a Get Ready Bootcamp for the first 4 weeks full of intensive coding practice before you join your team in October.
  • Training is delivered through immersive 2-day bootcamps, masterclasses, hacks and industry conferences events. 
  • You will be supported by a dedicated mentor and the programme learning and development coach, who will visit you every 4-6 weeks to check on progress.
  • On successful completion of the programme, you will have achieved a Level 4 Software Developer qualification which is nationally and industry recognised. This equivalent to a foundation degree or HNC/D.

Technology and digital and is the fastest growing industry, software developers are in high demand and earn some of the highest salaries in the sector. Tech employees tell us this is set to continue. This technical training programme will let you develop the skills and knowledge needed to be set for life with great career opportunities and incredible earning potential. 

Apprenticeship eligibility

Each apprentice must:

  • not be enrolled on another apprenticeship, or another DfE funded FE/HE programme, at the same time as any new apprenticeship they start;
  • not be asked to contribute financially to the cost of learning or assessment;
  • not use a student loan to pay for their apprenticeship;
  • have the right to work in England and spend at least 50% of their working hours in England over the duration of the apprenticeship;
  • be one of the following:
    • a citizen of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA) (including other countries determined within the EEA or those with bilateral agreements), or have the right of abode in the UK, and have been ordinarily resident in the EEA (including other countries determined within the EEA or those with bilateral agreements), for at least the previous three years on the first day of learning;
    • a non-EEA citizen with permission from the UK government to live in the UK, (not for educational purposes) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of learning.
