Chris is Chief Executive Officer at N:SYM, bringing nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of AI, autonomy and safety-critical engineering.
His career has spanned defence and other highly regulated industries, supporting the development and assurance of systems where failure is not an option; from wind turbines and nuclear reactors to trains and missile systems. This has given Chris a practical understanding of how to build technology that performs not only in theory, but under real operational, regulatory and assurance constraints.
Chris has worked across the full computing spectrum, from large-scale systems to severely constrained edge devices. His focus is on making autonomous systems trustworthy, combining rigorous systems engineering with classical and modern AI techniques to create AI that can be assured, understood and relied upon.
At N:SYM, Chris is helping shape a future in which AI is not treated as an opaque capability, but as a system that can reason, explain its decisions and operate safely in high-consequence environments. He has led numerous AI safety research projects and contributed to the international AI safety community through conference and committee work.
His ambition is to help establish the UK as a leader in trustworthy, reasoning-led AI; building systems that are powerful enough to matter, and dependable enough to trust.
