In the spotlight with Embryo

Each week we interview one of our members to find out a bit more about them and their work in the Greater Manchester digital sphere. This week we're speaking with full-service agency, Embryo.

What does your organisation do?

Embryo is a full-service marketing agency in the heart of the city. We offer our clients across a wide range of industries our services in SEO, PPC, social media marketing, content marketing, web design and development, and, more recently, offline marketing campaigns. We’re incredibly passionate about what we do and have one of the best and hardest-working teams in the industry today, if we don’t say so ourselves! We pride ourselves on our client experience and communications - transparency, honesty and clear, professionally-informed advice are the order of the day.

What do you think is currently the biggest issue facing the tech industry?

Talent is the main driver in the execution of an idea and the future of a company’s innovation. The biggest challenge that the tech startups are facing these days is to be able to find the right talent, both technically and culturally. The world is seeing more tech startups than ever, so competition for great talent is fierce. One incorrect recruit can be the failure of a tech start-up, while companies that are able to be efficient with remote teams and build strong and engaging cultures have more chance of making their mark in the industry.

What is your organisation’s biggest achievement?

We have doubled our turnover every year since Embryo was founded in 2015 which we’re immensely proud of, but we owe this growth and success to the talent and expertise of our team. A vital cog in the wheel of building a business is making sure you’ve got the right people around you and developing those people as the business grows and innovates. So our biggest achievements to date are, of course, our sustained business growth but we’d like to think our main successes are our people and our people development.

What would you consider to be your organisation’s biggest challenge?

Always making sure we’re not just keeping up, we’re staying ahead of the curve while still consistently delivering a high-quality service to both existing and new clients. We’re always looking ahead and working to innovate in the way we work and the way we market, but it can be hard to make this kind of thing a priority when working in a busy agency. Like many other agencies, we need to strike a balance between looking after our own digital profile when we have an ever-increasing customer base, while still making sure we don’t lose sight of what got us here in the first place - our clients.

What do you think the future looks like for Manchester’s tech sector?

The beauty of the future is that we and our peers are the ones inventing it. Particularly in Manchester, there are so many opportunities for companies and even individuals to make a massive impact on the direction of our sector that there’s really no way of knowing!

Tell us something that we might not know about your company?

As well as offering a plethora of digital services, we’re also the founders of the Embryo Index, a fantastic tool which compares companies all over the city, in a variety of sectors on their marketing efforts, both digital and offline. The index takes over 30 different touch points into account to give every company a score, which is consistently updated to reflect their most recent marketing endeavours! From keyword reach, to social media, to how well a company networks and promotes itself in offline spaces, the index gives Manchester companies an insight into how they and their competitors are faring when it comes to marketing themselves in the city. We’ll be rolling this out across the UK over the next year.
