In the spotlight with FLOCK

Each week we interview one of our members to find out a bit more about them and their work in the Greater Manchester digital sphere. This week we're speaking with FLOCK, the SaaS platform that helps businesses to improve the management and performance of their remote teams.

What does your organisation do?

FLOCK helps businesses understand, investigate and manage their #remoteworkers. To help create more productive teams.

FLOCK is an online tool that helps businesses investigate and understand their #remoteworkers. To help people people, business owners and HR managers support individuals to create more productive teams whilst #workingfromhome.

What do you think is currently the biggest issue facing the tech industry?

It may well be - that newly working from home employees feel isolated. Which will affect productivity as people who feel isolated at work are found to be over 20% less productive than others. We are living in surreal times where the negative effect of isolation can have a significant impact on our well-being and performance of all companies in the tech sector.  Even those who have people in them that are used to remote working.

So right now it is very important that company leaders and team managers make sure that their employees feel happy and engaged. That their values align. At FLOCK, we help remote teams have more engaging cultures by evaluating everyone’s core values. For the time of the pandemic we are offering 10 free employee profiles to help managers keep their remote teams working together, productively and happier.

What is your organisation’s biggest achievement?

At FLOCK, we have a customer-centric culture and we always make sure our clients receive the best possible service. Our team collectively believes that every person and every team is unique. We help companies to define their uniqueness to improve their collaboration and employee retention.

Over 80% of all people recruited by FLOCK are retained in their businesses for at least 12 months and are considered to be performing above-average by their managers.

Staying true to our culture while providing great results affecting the bottom line of our users is our biggest achievement.

What would you consider to be your organisation’s biggest challenge?

Due to the coronavirus outbreak we were not able to raise seed investment to help us scale our business. Our lead investor decided to delay their investment which eventually led to not being able to raise from them.

Currently, the investment landscape is less optimistic than it was a couple of months ago. This is why it is currently our biggest challenge, however, we are looking to close our seed round by September as more and more companies are investing in HR software designed to improve engagement of remote workers.

What do you think the future looks like for Manchester’s tech sector?

In Manchester, we have a great sense of community and a Mancunian identity. We believe that the Manchester tech sector will leverage its power of a strong community to tackle the skills gap challenge.

We have the right values together as a community.

By investing, training, and motivating our local community, people will learn more and want to become part of the tech community - no matter where they come from. No matter who they are as people. As the tech sector would not exist without its people. And the more diverse the group of people the better the tech they make.

Manchester has the right attributes and levels of diversity to work collaboratively to upskill as many people as possible and grow the whole ecosystem together.

Tell us something that we might not know about your company?

Last year, FLOCK expanded to Portugal. This is why our founder - Michal Wisniewski - spent three months in Lisbon last year setting up FLOCK’s subsidiary and raising investment. Since then, the FLOCK’s team is fully remote. Over several continents. But based in Manchester. Where our heart is.
