In The Spotlight with Hewlett Packard Enterprise: Driving digital transformation and community impact

In The Spotlight with HPE

At Manchester Digital, we like to interview our members to find out a bit more about what they do and their work in the Greater Manchester digital and technology sphere. This week, we're speaking with Simon Riley, Senior Digital Sales Leader at Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

Can you tell us a little about your role at HPE and what excites you most about your work?

As a Senior Digital Sales Leader, I lead a team focused on helping organisations transform their businesses through cloud, data, and edge solutions. What excites me most is seeing how technology directly impacts customers, whether it’s enabling innovation, driving efficiency, or helping them achieve sustainability goals. I’m especially energised by working with talented people in Manchester’s thriving tech scene and building relationships that go beyond transactions to create real community impact.

What impact is HPE having in Manchester’s digital and tech sector?

HPE is playing an active role in Manchester’s tech ecosystem by investing in local talent, delivering hybrid cloud and data solutions, partnering with regional businesses. Our office here is a hub for collaboration and innovation, and we’re proud to contribute to Manchester’s reputation as one of the UK’s most dynamic technology centres.

Why was it important for you to join Manchester Digital and become part of this community?

Manchester Digital is the heartbeat of the local tech community. Joining was a natural step for us, it allows HPE to connect with like-minded organisations, share knowledge, and help shape the future of the city’s tech landscape. Personally, I’m passionate about Manchester, and being part of this network means we can give back, support local growth, and attract top talent who want to build their careers here.

At HPE you’re committed to developing graduate talent – how do you see that shaping the future of your business and the wider industry?

Developing graduate talent ensures we’re continually refreshing our perspectives and skills. At HPE, our graduates bring curiosity, new ideas, and energy, which push us to innovate faster. For Manchester’s tech sector, this creates a pipeline of skilled professionals who can contribute to the city’s long-term growth and competitiveness. It’s not just about filling roles and it’s about shaping the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.

Diversity and inclusion are also key priorities - how is HPE working to support women in tech?

HPE has made diversity and inclusion central to our culture. We run mentorship programs, women-in-tech networks, and targeted recruitment initiatives to ensure women have opportunities to thrive in technical and leadership roles. In Manchester, we’re actively partnering with local groups and events to amplify women’s voices and create a more inclusive environment across the industry.

Looking ahead, what opportunities are you most excited about as part of your membership journey with us?

I’m excited about the chance to collaborate with other members on innovation projects, contribute to skills development initiatives, and help position Manchester as a global leader in technology. Being part of Manchester Digital isn’t just about networking, it’s about building something bigger together, from nurturing young talent to influencing the future direction of the tech community.

Thank you Simon!
