Manchester Christmas Markets introduce Augmented Reality to offer visitors hidden treats around the city

The app will also allow people to easily navigate around the Christmas Markets providing them with all the important information about points of interest. This includes free cash machines near the Markets, toilets, the main Christmas stalls areas and ice rink.

This festive app caters for all ages, and will include an AR game (available from 24th November) for kids to play around the Markets and catching elves to help Santa to deliver all the gifts. For all of those who complete this Christmas game, Sparta Digital and their partners have prepared a delicious reward to enjoy at the Markets.

The ‘buzzin’ app aims to bring more of the Christmas magic to Manchester while the city celebrates this festive time at one of the best Christmas markets in Europe.

The launch of today’s app is the second large scale event for Sparta Digital this year. Earlier this year, the company worked with Manchester Pride to bring AR experiences through the ‘buzzin’ app to the festival.

The ‘buzzin’ app, which has multiple deployments, is part of CityVerve and aims to provide citizens and visitors with tailored information about their journey and surroundings while they explore the city.

“Augmented reality is now the technology to watch with a great potential and unlimited possibilities” said Ashraf Anwar, Sparta’s Senior Developer. “We’ve been working with it on various projects, but the event space is something we are definitely focused on. After a very positive feedback from Manchester Pride 2017 and with the Christmas Markets on the horizon we are excited to be bringing AR to the public and revolutionising their experience in the city”.

Manchester Christmas Markets start on 10th November with stalls located around the city centre for a duration of 6 weeks.

The Augmented Reality game ‘Elf Chase’ will be available in the Cathedral Gardens from 24th November.
