Build your AI skills and get real business experience
AIMS combines two weeks of practical AI training with eight weeks working on a real project with a Greater Manchester SME.
You’ll build practical skills in AI and automation, then apply them to a genuine business challenge, supported by AI specialists, industry mentors, Manchester Digital and Manchester Metropolitan University.
There is no cost to take part, reasonable expenses are covered, and people receiving benefits are eligible.
Who is it for?
AIMS is aimed at people who are unemployed, returning to work or looking to move into an AI-enabled role.
You don’t need previous professional AI experience. We particularly welcome applications from women and people from groups underrepresented in technology.

What participants will do
Participants will:
- Work on live AI or automation challenges from SMEs
- Join structured project teams supported by AI specialist mentors
- Build practical experience in applied AI deployment
- Receive support from Manchester Digital, MMU and technical mentors
- Develop evidence of capability through real business work
- Connect with employers and potential opportunity routes
- Build confidence, commercial awareness and project experience
