We are looking for a back-end web developer to join our digital team with primary responsibility for the development and maintenance of our award winning cloud based web & mobile applications.

What does the job involve?

If creating high-quality web applications and learning new technologies is your thing then this role could be for you. Your primary focus will be development of our Shares web site and associated APIs, implementing new technologies, conforming to internal development standards, developing on cloud architecture whilst seeking to incorporate the latest technologies.

Within a wider digital team, following agile processes & principles, you will ensure a high level of code quality. Working closely with fellow developers, front-end designers & system architects this role provides a great opportunity for you to demonstrate back-end, server side and API skills. The role will cover a mix of new product driven projects, innovation led initiatives whilst looking to continue to modernise the tech stack and progress the move to micro-service architecture. Whilst back-end focussed, you will also gain exposure to React and Next.js front-end technologies.

  • Experience developing and exposing APIs essential
  • Experience designing and building highly performant, reliable and reusable code
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and experience of Agile principles and practices
  • Experienced with SDLC and project development
  • Experience writing unit tests and working with automated test pipelines
  • Experience with AWS API Gateway highly beneficial
  • Experience implementing micro services beneficial
  • Extremely hard working with a focus on data, details and quality
  • Passionate about continual learning

Knowledge & Skills

Core language and platform skills:

  • Object orientated PHP 5.3 upwards
  • PHP MVC (Zend or Laravel or Symfony)
  • GIT
  • MongoDB
  • Redis
  • Knowledge of Typescript beneficial
  • Experience with GraphQL beneficial

Familiar with the following frameworks:

  • PHP
  • Node

This role provides formal cover for Mission and Business Critical systems and processes, and as such you may be required to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays to provide out of hours support for such systems and processes, as part of a rota. Employees who are scheduled to be on-call will receive a weekly standby allowance and will be paid for overtime worked during these periods.  

This role is available under our hybrid working scheme. Ideally we're looking for people who are within commuting distance of one of our offices however for certain roles we can consider UK-based candidates who are further away - ask the recruitment team for more information.
