Code First Girls Opportunities
The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is thrilled to partner with Code First Girls (CFG) for the third time to offer training and IPO placement under the Pathways to STEM GFiE scheme.
Successful candidates will be part of the Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT) Directorate at the IPO, the UK's hub of innovation and the official government body responsible for intellectual property (IP) rights, including patents, designs, trademarks, and copyright.

What does this opportunity consist of?
- You’ll start by completing a 16-week Nanodegree with CFG in full-stack or software engineering.
- You will then embark on an exciting 2-year placement with IPO (with the possibility of permanency) to enhance and develop your skills.
Who should apply?
We are seeking a diverse mix of candidates, from recent graduates to those looking to change careers, regardless of their educational background.
The 4 successful applicants will receive a 2-year fixed-term appointment at the IPO, with the potential for permanency based on business needs and performance.
Successful candidates will commence the CFG Nanodegree in August 2025, and upon completion, will begin their IPO appointment in February 2026.

Job description
Main duties will vary dependent on the DDaT area you join. During the 2-year fixed term appointment, you will:
- Develop and mature your technical and soft skills and will be supported to master specific technologies.
- Working alongside experts in their fields you will acquire on job experience and have the opportunity to work on the latest cutting-edge cloud technologies.
- You will be involved with innovative projects and use modern delivery processes.
- You will have the opportunity to make valuable contributions without compromising on quality.
Successful candidates will work in one of the following roles:
- Digital Delivery Apprentice Dev Ops Engineer (x2)
- Digital Delivery Apprentice Dynamics Developer
- Digital Delivery Apprentice Front-End Developer

Successful candidates will commence the CFG Nanodegree in August 2025, and upon completion, will begin their appointment in February 2026.
Working Style
This role will be carried out in-line with IPO Hybrid working arrangements where staff are currently expected to spend at least 20% of their time working onsite from one of our offices. This role is based in our Newport Office.
The requirement for attendance at an office location can vary by role so we would encourage candidates to discuss working arrangements with the recruiting manager to agree a reasonable balance between working from home and the office.
