As an interaction designer, you will serve as a specialist, aiding in the implementation of government schemes aimed at achieving policy outcomes that support the Net Zero initiative. The chosen candidate will collaborate extensively with user-centred design peers and multidisciplinary digital delivery teams.
Additionally, the interaction designer will play a pivotal role in aiding the development of Ofgem's interaction design community. As a designer, your role will involve collaborating with Product Managers and Service Owners to evolve design concepts. You will be responsible for setting the direction and ensuring the quality of design delivery across teams.
In this role, a primary duty will be to champion best practices in interaction design and promote a development approach that is both accessible and centred around the user.
Your key responsibilities will also encompass facilitating interaction design efforts across Delivery & Schemes projects. You'll support the growth of interaction design within the Ofgem User-Centred Design (UCD) community. Additionally, you'll mentor other UCD roles to enhance their understanding of interaction design and increase awareness and understanding of the field across Ofgem.

Job description
Key Responsibilities
- Design user interfaces and interactions for complex government services, ensuring they are accessible, usable, and meet user needs.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that effectively communicate design concepts and solutions.
- Collaborate with user researchers to understand user needs, behaviours, and pain points, and use this information to inform design decisions.
- Work closely with developers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and meet technical requirements.
- Advocate for user-centred design principles within the team and organization, promoting best practices and standards.
- Contribute to the development of design standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
- Present design concepts and solutions to stakeholders and team members, effectively communicating the rationale behind design decisions.
- Engage in design crits and feedback sessions to support your own development and contribute to other’s growth.
- Contribute to the wider interaction design community - including facilitating workshops, improving design components, and communicating design decisions.
Key Outputs and Deliverables
- Wireframes and prototypes that clearly communicate design concepts and solutions.

Person specification
Essential Criteria
- Professional experience as an Interaction Designer, working with other User Centred Design disciplines (lead criteria).
- Proven ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that effectively communicate design concepts.
- Knowledge of accessibility guidelines and experience of ensuring that digital services are accessible to all users, including users with low digital skills.
- Managing stakeholder relationship and expectations and facilitating difficult conversations within the team or with diverse senior stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, including user researchers, developers, product managers, and other relevant stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of using GOV.UK prototyping kit and Figma.
- Experience working in projects run in Agile, with an understanding of Agile methodologies and practices.
