About the job

Job summary

A Senior Infrastructure Engineer builds, administers, transitions, supports and maintains infrastructure services throughout the service lifecycle, according to the departmental policy and Home Office strategy.

Job description

In End User Compute (EUC), our ‘TechDev’ engineers are responsible for the development, deployment, and management of devices on platforms such as Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android. In addition to this, we also deliver security and governance along with the products and services an end user needs to fulfil in their day-to-day role. You will specialize primarily in configuring solutions within the Microsoft 365 environment with a focus on Intune, Azure and Defender for Endpoint.

You will work with and support third parties in providing infrastructure services and collaborate with technical architects to translate architectural designs to implementation.

Working closely with the wider EUC team, you will develop and deliver new functions and services across Home Office, enhancing the end user experience.

As a subject matter expert and product lead, you will contribute to activities such as technology roadmaps, projects, and tasks.

What you will do

Your main day to day responsibilities will be:

  • Designing, implementing, administering and supporting infrastructure technologies and solutions such as: Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android or Azure Virtual Desktop platform configuration and policies
  • Reviewing the systems designs of others to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources and integration of multiple systems and technology
  • Providing technical expertise and knowledge for Microsoft Windows and Office 365 services, products, and patterns and the management tools that configure them such as Microsoft Intune or SCCM
  • Contributing to any assurance activities for relevant services/products ready for deployment
  • Evaluating the impact of supplier-instigated and organisation-instigated changes to Microsoft Windows and Office 365 services
  • Initiating and monitoring actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems, including consulting specialists where required. You will determine the appropriate remedy and assist with implementation of fixes as well as preventative measures
  • Identifying the correct procedures and appropriate channels for resolution and monitor resolution activities and progress updates to users
  • Coaching and mentoring more junior infrastructure engineers, participating in their appraisal and related performance management processes

Like many organisations we need to maintain our services 24/7, therefore, on occasions there may be a requirement to work out of hours, for which you will be paid an additional allowance.

Person specification

UK residency and security requirements - You need to have lived in the UK for the past 5 years.

Essential criteria

You’ll have a demonstrable passion for Infrastructure Engineering, with the following skills or strong experience in:

  • Azure AD, AAD device management, Hybrid Domain Devices (co-management).
  • Technical understanding and administrative operation of end user devices across the above-mentioned platforms using tooling such as Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune), Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager and Entra-ID as well as virtual client tools such as Nerdio.
  • Applied knowledge of drafting and implementing scripts such as MS Graph API.
  • Design and build end to end services across largely, the M365 technology stack including discovery, design, assurance, testing and transitions to service.
  • Ensuring all solutions are designed for accessibility or can be integrated with using 3rd party tooling.
  • Managing and delivering complex technologies within time, cost, and quality targets as a contributor to technology roadmaps across the above platforms.
  • Dissecting a problem into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes, allowing problem resolution.
