Principal Solutions Architect - Telematics

WHAT TO EXPECT

Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for a Principal Solutions Architect to assist with developing our vision of the “Digital Vehicle.” A vehicle that currently emits circa. 18,000 signals to monitor Speed, Diagnostics, Battery Charges etc. but we have big plans to make this even better; you will be a very important part of this.

This role sits within the software development centre for digital engineering in Manchester and does not require Connected Vehicle or IoT experience, you could be from any industry with a strong software engineering discipline.

You will be helping Jaguar Land Rover realise our business vision of a cloud-native “vehicle connected and data platform” that will provide customers, suppliers and partners with seamless connected services delivered through an industry-leading global platform.

You will work closely with stakeholders to define and evolve a system architecture that meets both functional and operational needs and, importantly, provides direction and support to our agile delivery teams. You will be a valued member of our Global Digital Development Centre team, contributing to the strategic direction of the technology and solutions delivered.

Key Responsibilities

In this specific role you will have ownership of the solution architecture pertaining to the customer’s digital experience of the vehicle; in terms of the vehicle’s current state, health and journeys travelled, but also the ability to command and control the vehicle from a mobile device.

As a solution architect, your responsibilities will be defining and communicating the structure and dynamics of a solution, sufficient to meet the requirements of the various key stakeholders.

• You will be responsible for identifying and highlighting architectural risk and providing recommendations for mitigation.
• You will be responsible for enabling the agile delivery teams to work effectively through a clear understanding of the separation of concerns and system dependencies.
• You will work in close collaboration with the engineering teams through the tech leads, you will evolve the architecture as detail is laid down and through architectural prototyping as necessary.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential:

• At least 3 years of experience in the role of solution architect accountable for delivering, describing, and governing full end-to-end systems architecture
• Experience of architecting within agile delivery methods, e.g. scaled agile or scrum
• Solid experience of the solution architecture discipline, ideally as part of a recognised agile SDLC
• Experience of developing architecture using any recognised framework, e.g. TOGAF

Desirable:

• Telematics or Connected Vehicle experience
• Experience in AWS or Cloud Services.
• IOT architectures
• Relational, non-relational databases (NoSQL), time-series databases, data lakes and analytic
