The Purpose

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to work as part of the Customer Integration team to make the Peak platform, even better! You’ll get to work closely with our Data Science and Customer Success teams to deliver AI solutions for our customers, ultimately helping those customers grow and optimise their business through data and AI.

The Role

Based in our Manchester office you’ll form part of a highly agile team in an environment that encourages collaboration and fosters learning. 

Integrating customers’ data into our platform is one of the most critical and complex elements of onboarding new customers. You’ll work across teams to plan and ensure the effective transfer of data, but also critically look to develop Peak’s data extraction tools within our platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building data pipelines using Peak’s platform or custom tools if required to ingest data
  • Working with Customer Success Managers and our customers to identify optimal data integration methods
  • Taking responsibility for initial bulk data upload to our platform
  • Delivering data for Data Scientists in the staging area
  • Implementing monitoring  for data ingestion jobs and take corrective action should they fail
  • Delivering project plans and estimates after understanding the data landscape
  • Building a repository of documents to explain data ingestion best practices
  • Providing constructive feedback to the Product & Engineering teams on data ingestion and integration
  • Collaborating with the DevOps team as a business data specialist to develop scripts to handle various data quality issues

Required experience:

  • Strong experience in data projects including data warehouse, data migration and data integration
  • Understanding of best ETL or API/streaming methods, including parsing of different data structures (XML, JSON, CSV) 
  • Strong Python skills.
  • Good customer facing skills and ability to explain complex problems in a clear way. 

It would also be nice if you had:

  • Strong technical background in ETL tools (including queuing and caching), SQL and databases 
  • Experience using and creating APIs, with knowledge of ReSTful best practices (HTTP response codes, Headers, Authentication)
  • Understanding of failure handling, retry approaches and error reporting
  • Ability to work with both technical and non technical teams
  • Cloud technologies and big data knowledge would be an advantage.

As an AWS Machine Learning and Retail competency partner, that is where we host our infrastructure. Be ready to dive into the inner workings of the platform to debug and resolve issues, we want our Data Engineers to be as autonomous and self-sufficient as they can be, continuously learning and getting practical experience of our favourite technologies.
