About Small City Marketing

Small City Marketing is a full-service digital marketing agency based in Manchester. We offer paid advertising, SEO, social media, PR and content strategy, and we work with clients across a variety of primarily B2B industries such as recruitment, tech, property, e-commerce and the third sector. Our approach is strategy-led and increasingly AI-augmented, but always human-focused. We are small, ambitious, and growing fast, so we move quickly and we have a great relationship with all of our clients which comes with a lot of care around getting things right and producing high quality work.

The role

We are hiring a Content and Marketing Executive to join us full-time in Manchester. This is a varied, hands-on role that sits primarily in creative content delivery and some client relationship management. You will produce and manage content across several client accounts and work on our own brand’s marketing, begin to build direct relationships with clients, and coordinate on occasion with our specialist freelancers. Over time you will become a key client-facing member of the team which allows opportunity for progression in the company. It suits someone with strong writing and content creation skills, someone who is extremely organised, and someone who is just as comfortable jumping on a call with a client as they are designing a social graphic or writing a blog article.

What you will be doing day to day

Content creation and delivery

  • Writing and scheduling content across social media platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, & TikTok, for a range of clients and for our own brand
  • Creating on-brand graphics and visual content in Canva or Adobe Express
  • Writing longer-form content pieces such as blog posts and email newsletters, to brief and to deadline
  • Producing and editing short-form video using CapCut or similar
  • Supporting with UGC creator outreach and coordination where relevant to the account

Client management

  • Attending and contributing to regular client calls, weekly or fortnightly depending on the account
  • Building strong working relationships with your client contacts via email & sometimes phone calls (when support is necessary)
  • Supporting with end-of-month performance reports that clearly show results and next steps
  • Responding to any client requests promptly
  • Coordinating with external stakeholders such as freelancers, influencers / UGC creators etc. where relevant

Tools and admin

  • Scheduling and managing content through Metricool
  • Keeping project boards and tasks up to date in Monday.com
  • Keeping client files and assets organised in Canva / Adobe Express and OneDrive

The kind of person we are looking for

Choosing the right person matters to us just as much as their experience. You will do well here if you:

  • Are a confident, clear communicator in writing and on calls, so clients feel they are in good hands
  • Take initiative and do not wait to be told what to do next
  • Stay organised and calm while juggling deadlines across different clients
  • Write quickly and well across social, editorial, press and email, with a good instinct for what strong content looks like
  • Are confident in Canva / Adobe Express and can create professional visuals without a specialist graphic designer for day-to-day work
  • Can edit short-form video in CapCut or something similar
  • Are comfortable using AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT as part of how you work
  • Are happy writing and creating for B2B brands

Experience and criteria

  • Some agency or fast-paced marketing experience is a real plus
  • Experience with marketing and project management tools
  • Experience writing or creating for B2B audiences
  • A degree or qualification in marketing or a related field is welcome, though recent graduates who can show drive and capability are warmly encouraged
  • Based in or around Manchester and able to be in the office at least 3 days a week

What we offer

  • Salary of up to £28,000 depending on experience, with a structured review at 3 months
  • 20 days annual leave plus all UK bank holidays
  • Workplace pension scheme
  • Full-time, permanent role based in Manchester
  • Hybrid working, with at least 3 days a week in the office
  • A varied, client-facing role with real responsibility & autonomy from day one
  • Direct mentorship from the team, with a clear path to Account Executive and then Account Manager
  • A supportive, ambitious environment where your work genuinely matters to the clients we serve and where creativity, ideation and ambition is warmly welcomed (+ encouraged)!
