Dan Cathie is Co-founder and CEO of Silveray, a Manchester-based deep tech company developing flexible X-ray imagers, often described as "digital X-ray film", to transform the future of digital radiography. A spin-out from the University of Surrey, Silveray is commercialising breakthrough semiconductor technology for next-generation medical and industrial imaging. Under Dan's leadership, the company has secured more than £10 million in investor funding to accelerate product development and growth.
Previously, Dan was CEO of vivaMOS, a semiconductor spin-out from the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), where he led the development and commercialisation of advanced X-ray detectors for industrial inspection applications. Following vivaMOS's acquisition by Nordson Corporation in 2020, he helped integrate the business and contributed to the company's Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning strategy.
Dan is a semiconductor design engineer by background, holding a Master's degree in Electronics and an MBA. He began his career at Philips Semiconductors and has worked across the UK, Europe, the USA, and Asia, giving him extensive international experience in technology innovation and commercialisation.
He also advises technology start-ups, serves as a school governor, and sits on the board of the Centre for Instrumentation at STFC. Outside work, Dan and his wife Julie were foster carers and have six children, three of whom are adopted. He enjoys cooking, running, and exploring emerging technologies.
