Earthing Studies arm bolsters Enspec’s offering

Enspec Power has launched a new Earthing Studies department to enhance its consultancy offering.

Dr. Mehrdad Mokhtari, who has published several books and journal papers in the field over a 22-year career, will lead the new arm having joined from Cardiff University.

The introduction of comprehensive Earthing System Studies builds on the services already provided by Enspec, including power system studies, power quality analysis, renewable manufacturing, and site services.

Mehrdad said: “I’m delighted to join a rapidly growing company in Enspec and lead our Earthing Studies department.

“An Earthing Study is a comprehensive technical analysis of an electrical system’s grounding infrastructure. And put simply, there is a lack of Earthing Studies experts in the UK.”

Mehrdad, who has worked globally in the field in both the public and private sectors, added: “I recently worked as a research associate at Cardiff University for one year, working on earthing and lightning safety systems on a variety of National Grid projects.

“With Enspec aiming to launch and expand its Earthing Studies offering, addressing industry needs through training and professional development, it felt the right fit for both me and Enspec.

“Over time, we intend to hire more people who can be trained under my supervision for two to three years so they can test and implement systems and become recognised in this field. By doing this, we will address the two main challenges that currently exist: the lack of experts in the UK and the need for industry to adopt more professional and academic practices.”

Enspec’s clients include large energy generators, such as major wind farms, solar farms, and hydroelectric plants, as well as major energy consumers, including manufacturers, data centres, and hospitals.

Mara Rastall is the CEO of the St Helens-headquartered company, which also has offices in Manchester city centre and a base in Washington in the north-east.

She said: “In Mehrdad, we could not have a better person and expert to lead our new Earthing Studies consultancy offering.

“We firmly believe this department will grow under Mehrdad’s supervision, and we are confident that this essential service will help Enspec build on our track record of delivering technically robust, standards-driven solutions across the grid.”
