Why we’re passionate about the mission behind Safer Internet Day
Today is Safer Internet Day and while it’s easy to write it off as another date in the social media calendar, for us at Naimuri, it actually cuts right to the heart of why we show up to work.
This year’s theme is all about Smart tech and safe choices, specifically looking at AI.
Now, we’re techies at heart, but we’re also realists.
While AI offers incredible benefits, we're also aware that it can make the internet a stranger and sometimes more daunting environment to navigate and create more issues.
The "Muri" of the modern internet
The Naimuri name still reigns strong and reflects our ethos: 'nai' meaning 'not' &'muri' meaning 'overburden' in Japanese.
This philosophy still shapes every facet of our organisation, from technology and processes; to people, culture, and leadership.
In 2026, immense pressure and ‘overburdening’ is being placed on the people tasked with keeping the UK safe.
Imagine being a police officer trying to work out if a video is a genuine threat or a high-end deepfake, or a techy drowning in mountains of data.
It’s too much noise, too much pressure, and too much risk.
That is where companies like ourselves at Naimuri come in. Our mission isn't just to create software. It’s to use clever engineering to clear that noise. We want to make the internet safer by making the tools used to defend it actually work for the humans using them.
Putting our money where our mouth is
Being mission-led sounds fancy, but for us, it’s pretty practical. It means we focus on the stuff that actually moves the needle for UK safety:
- Tackling the fakes: Through our work with partners and customers, we’ve been getting stuck into the technical reality of deepfakes. It’s not just about spotting a glitchy video; it’s about giving investigators the confidence to say, This is real, or This is a plant, before it causes chaos.
- Privacy that actually works: We’re massive believers that you shouldn't have to trade your privacy for security. As the new Data Act settles in, we’re helping our partners build systems that are Secure by Design, keeping data locked down and handled ethically, without making the process a total headache.
- Local talent, national impact: We love being part of the Manchester tech scene. We’re big on the idea that sovereign capability (the UK’s ability to look after its own digital back yard) starts with regional hubs. A safer internet needs a diverse range of voices, not just a one-size-fits-all approach from a global giant.
Smart tech, better outcomes
At the end of the day, Smart Tech shouldn't be about replacing people; it should be about giving them a leg up.
Whether it’s using Small Language Models to keep data local and secure, or streamlining messy databases, it's all part of keeping things safe.
Happy Safer Internet Day, let’s keep creating things that matter.
