The biggest digital and OOH marketing trends of 2022 so far

We’re almost 2 months into 2022, and a lot has changed about the way we do ads.

In a world that is eager to move on from the pandemic (as much as we can), advertisers are focusing on the positive in 2022 and lots of exciting changes are happening.

Here are the biggest marketing trends of the New Year so far.

Let’s get started!

1. Video

Video is everywhere right now, and its no surprise why.

Whether through a website or social channel, consumers want to learn as much information about who a brand is and how they can solve a pain point for the consumer as possible. With video, brands can do both in a relatively short amount of time.

And it isn’t just the digital landscape that is transforming to accommodate video. DOOH (digital out-of-home) advertisements, especially billboards, are on the rise.

Even TikTok, the current digital king of short video, is branching out and buying digital billboards.

2. Podcasts

With the global podcast ad spend being expected to reach $1.74 billion this year, its safe to say that podcast advertising is growing in significance.

Despite being just under 2 months into the new year, we’ve seen more brands start to get involved in podcast advertising. To learn how to make podcast advertising work for your brand, give our easy-to-follow guide to podcast advertising a read!

3. Metaverse

Four of this year’s most talked about Super Bowl ads were for crypto, and with NFTs continuing their surge in popularity, many brands have spent the first two months of 2022 trialling new avenues for them to enter the metaverse.

Whether its years away from us or already here, there is no better time than now for brands to get involved in the metaverse.

4. Personality reigns

No matter your brand or audience, personality matters. In fact, it seems to be the priority of most marketing professionals in 2022.

A great way for brands to build and reflect their personality is through influencer marketing. In carefully choosing the right influencer with the right reputation and audience, brands can also highlight their brand identity and values.

And it doesn’t just have to be done digitally! Influencers with a larger audience can make massively successful billboards and OOH campaigns.

According to research conducted by HubSpot, 34% of marketers are prioritising influencer marketing this year and will continue to invest in this tactic.

5. Champion a cause!

If who you are as a brand was a cake, then the values that your brand believes in are the icing, sprinkles, and cherry on top. (People put cherries on top of cakes, right?)

In 2022, it isn’t enough to say what you believe in. Brands need to show their target audience how they translate their values into actions.

This year so far, we’re seeing more brands champion both local and global causes and building consumer trust as a result.
