Job description

We are looking for people who have experience in counter fraud and enjoy working in a delivery focused, agile environment. You should be able to combine excellent analytical skills with strong communication and relationship building capabilities. You should be innovative and interested in continuing to learn and develop, whilst also being outcome and results driven.

Main responsibilities

  • review and analyse alerts from live service data and our threat intelligence platform - writing suspicious activity reports and escalating where necessary
  • create regular intelligence and fraud reports for a range of stakeholders, and clearly communicate relevant insights
  • input to team requirements for the fraud products
  • identify and implement fraud team data requirements, including creating dashboards where needed
  • understand the data flows for the product, and any relevant retention periods
  • conduct larger scale analysis across longer time periods
  • support the development of the team strategy
  • create runbooks to ensure a standardised BAU operation
  • lead on engagement with a range of stakeholders across the programme and government
  • remain alert to emerging fraud issues and trends

Person specification

While we are looking for individuals who meet as many of these criteria as possible, we may consider applicants with strong skills in certain areas but less experience in others.

Essential

  • experience working in a counter-fraud role
  • strong analytical skills to identify patterns, trends and insights from multiple data sources and large datasets
  • ability to present data analysis and insights using appropriate visualisation methods
  • strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas (including data insights) in an clear and engaging way
  • ability to build effective relationships with people within the programme and across government
  • experience in using transaction monitoring systems and case management systems
  • experience working in a complex and fast-moving environment

Selection process details

The standard selection process for roles at GDS consists of:

  • a simple application screening process - We only ask for a CV and cover letter of up to 750 words. Important tip - please ensure that your cover letter includes how you meet the skills and experience listed in the “person specification” section above
  • a 90 minute video interview - this includes an assessment

Depending on how many applications we get, there might also be an extra stage before the video interview, for example a phone interview or a technical exercise.

In the Civil Service, we use Success Profiles to evaluate your skills and ability. This gives us the best possible chance of finding the right person for the job, increases performance and improves diversity and inclusivity. We’ll be assessing your technical abilities, skills, experience and behaviours that are relevant to this role.

Candidates that do not pass the interview but have demonstrated an acceptable standard may be considered for similar roles at a lower grade.
