We are recruiting for a Delivery Manager to be part of the Government Digital and Data Workforce and Capability Division.

Job description

As a Delivery Manager, you will be at the heart of supporting transformation of the Government Digital and Data Capability Framework, a product that describes the digital and data roles and skills in government. 

Our delivery professionals work on a diverse range of projects, products and services within GDS and across government departments. We’re looking for people with strong interpersonal skills who enjoy working in a demanding, high profile agile environment. We’re looking for people who are passionate about agile working, who care about technology and who know how to make projects succeed. And we want people who believe that how you work is as important as what you deliver. 

As a delivery manager you will: 

  • review and iterate delivery methods and approaches to team and agile working 
  • support the product manager and work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the Capability Framework meets user needs and government design principles and focuses on what is important
  • help to manage development of the related Senior Civil Service (SCS) part of the framework
  • establish relationships with capability leads, profession leads and technical specialists across government, so that we can develop the framework and effective learning products
  • bring together teams, ensuring they are motivated, collaborating and working well to maintain delivery momentum
  • make sure that teams understand their mission, vision and goals, and that these align across the organisation
  • communicate and visualise progress towards these goals
  • manage, communicate and address risks, issues and dependencies
  • coordinate stakeholder engagement, liaising with cross-government and external parties to ensure strategic
  • encourage the team to be self-organising, and coach and mentor both team members and others to apply the most appropriate Agile and Lean tools and technique

Person specification

We’re interested in people who: 

  • use agile practices to ensure the iterative and timely delivery of user-centred products in a fast-paced environment, amid ambiguity and changing priorities 
  • facilitate collaborative and inclusive workshops to enable delivery progress
  • have excellent communication skills and proven experience of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver results, with evidence of high personal impact.
  • proactively address, communicate and when appropriate escalate risks, issues, blockers and dependencies
  • understand the product life cycle and apply it appropriately
  • can balance cost and value and making decisions that reflect both budget constraints and user priorities.

Office attendance
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.
DSIT does not normally offer full home working (i.e. working at home); but we do offer a variety of flexible working options (including occasionally working from home).

Selection process details

The standard selection process for roles at GDS consists of:

  • a simple application screening process - We only ask for a CV and cover letter of up to 750 words. Important tip - please ensure that your cover letter includes how you meet the skills and experience listed in the “person specification” section above
  • a 60 minute video interview.

Depending on how many applications we get, there might also be an extra stage before the video interview, for example a phone interview or a technical exercise.

Candidates that do not pass the interview but have demonstrated an acceptable standard may be considered for similar roles at a lower grade.
