You will frequently collaborate with and take part in planning with senior business stakeholders to ensure that security, stability and capacity are embedded in the development and deployment of services. You will identify and explore opportunities for technology service and business improvement.

We are keen for Engineers to continue learning new technologies, we have a large range in the Home Office including: 

  • Backend: Java, Node.js, C#, Python, PHP, Scala, Power platform
  • Frontend: React, JavaScript, Typescript, Angular 
  • Data: PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Mongodb, Apache Cassandra 
  • DevOps: AWS, Kubernetes, Azure, Jenkins, Docker, Ansible, Terraform
  • AI: Azure ML Studio, Python, Github Copilot, OpenAI

Personal specification

Working Pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working.  This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 3 days per week due to business requirements.

Main responsibilities 

  • Carrying out challenging platform build, maintenance and evolution activities; being the technical expert in your area.
  • Solving difficult technical problems that require expert analysis and investigation.
  • Developing new platforms/systems as well as maintaining guidance for others building/using them.
  • Developing patterns for platforms use, proposing new and improved approaches.
  • Supporting teams working with our platforms; advising on automation and platform use to meet our systems objectives.
  • Demonstrating an advanced appreciation of security issues and advising delivery teams on how to build secure services.

Essential skills 

You’ll have a visible passion for building working and supportable software solutions, with the following skills or strong experience in: 

  • Developing full stack enterprise software solutions, including cloud infrastructure, container orchestration and data platforms. (SWDN)
  • Supporting the delivery management of large-scale programmes, including evaluating the technical feasibility and deliverability of proposed solutions and tracking the adherence to the solution principles through to implementation.(PROG)
  • Managing and sustaining large scale code bases and deployment infrastructure, including managing knowledge retention and evolution through technology and supplier changes. (SINT)
  • Understanding software delivery methods and methodologies with an ability to communicate these to a wide variety of stakeholders. (ASUP)
  • Analysing data problems from both line of business systems and infrastructure domains with a view to identifying process improvements. (DATM)
  • Testing large scale software solutions against functional, non-functional and operational requirements. (TEST) 

UK residency and security requirements       

Please note that this role requires Security Check (SC) clearance, which would normally need 5 years’ UK residency in the past 5 years. Candidates must also hold or be prepared to undergo NPPV3 clearance.

However, in exceptional circumstances security clearance applications for candidates who have been present in the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years may be considered. Failure to meet this residency requirement will result in your security clearance application being rejected.
