The Power Platform Developer works on software components that form part of a product. You will be involved in designing, running and improving software that meets user needs.
You will lead on extending the platform to its limits while setting the benchmark for robust, reliable and accessible solutions. Setting patterns, templates and standards as an example to others will be a natural output of your work. The scope of your role will touch the wider Home Office and beyond as we aim to act as technical leaders throughout the wider public sector.
You will typically work under the direction of senior colleagues in your team while also leading on your own deliveries and guiding associate developers.

We are keen for Engineers to continue learning new technologies, we have a large range in the Home Office including:
- Backend: SQL, C#, Node.js, Python
- Frontend: PowerFx, JavaScript, TypeScript, React
- Data: Dataverse, SharePoint Online, SQL Server
- DevOps/Platforms: Microsoft Azure (platform), Azure DevOps pipelines Terraform, PowerShell
- AI: Github Copilot, OpenAI
Personal specifications
The Power Platform Developer brings a mix of traditional development expertise with advanced experience of the Microsoft Power Platform and Azure. You’ll play a key role in designing, running and improving software that meets user needs. You will lead on extending the platform to its limits while setting the benchmark for robust, reliable and accessible solutions. Areas of development can include:
- Complex Canvas apps
- Model-Driven apps
- Custom connectors,
- PCF components
- Power Automate
- Plug-ins
- Logic Apps
- Function Apps
Main responsibilities
- Delivering secure, reliable and scalable software undertaking a breadth of development tasks as a Power Platform SME.
- Taking a blended approach to development using a code first approach were necessary to extend the platform.
- Leading on roadmap initiatives taking ownership from POC to production.
- Designing new software using appropriate tools in line with standards, proving designs through prototyping. For example, PowerShell scripting, re-usable app components, custom connectors, plug-ins, and PCF components
- Reporting on system performance and supporting test activities; keeping documentation up to date.
- Supporting services, you have delivered through regular maintenance activities, balancing your work with your leadership.
- Applying your knowledge and experience to coach junior developers and ‘Business Maker’ as required.
- Working with other engineers to deliver new capability, for instance improved CI/CD pipelines or test approaches.
UK residency and security requirements
Please note that this role requires Security Check (SC) clearance, which would normally need 5 years’ UK residency in the past 5 years. Candidates must also hold or be prepared to undergo NPPV3 clearance.
However, in exceptional circumstances security clearance applications for candidates who have been present in the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years may be considered. Failure to meet this residency requirement will result in your security clearance application being rejected.
