PHP Developer
Revolution Growth - Manchester
Manchester
The Role
As a PHP Developer at Revolution, you'll build and run the platforms behind some of the biggest brands we work with. This isn't template-shop work. It's proper platform engineering: Laravel applications and Statamic builds running on real AWS infrastructure, serving real traffic, with real consequences when things go wrong.
You'll own features end to end - from schema design through to deployment - and you'll work directly alongside our design, frontend and marketing teams to ship work that performs commercially, not just technically.
We're looking for someone mid-senior to senior. You've shipped enough to have opinions, and you're still curious enough to change them.
What You'll Do
Build & Ship
Design and build Laravel applications and Statamic sites for major client platforms.
Develop APIs and third-party integrations - payment gateways, CRMs, search, email and marketing tooling.
Write clean, tested, reviewable code and take pride in leaving things better than you found them.
Take features from ticket to production, including the awkward middle bit nobody else wants.
Infrastructure & Operations
Work confidently across our AWS estate - EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront - with NGINX on Ubuntu.
Contribute to deployments, environments and CI/CD pipelines.
Help monitor, debug and resolve production issues calmly and quickly.
Care about security, backups and the boring things that stop bad days happening.
Data & Performance
Design and maintain database schemas across MySQL and PostgreSQL.
Diagnose and fix slow queries, N+1 problems and caching gaps.
Make performance a habit, not an afterthought.
Collaboration & Quality
Review code and be reviewed - constructively, without ego.
Work closely with frontend developers building in Vue, Vite and Tailwind.
Communicate clearly with non-technical colleagues and, where needed, clients.
Share what you learn and raise the standard of the team around you.
About You
You're a strong engineer who cares about the craft but stays pragmatic. You understand that great platforms aren't about clever code, they're about reliability, performance and outcomes.
You'll need to bring:
4+ years of commercial PHP experience with strong, modern Laravel.
Solid SQL fluency across MySQL and PostgreSQL - schema design, indexing, query optimisation.
Genuine comfort working in AWS environments.
Experience with Git-based workflows, code review and automated testing.
Excellent communication - you can explain a technical decision to a non-technical person without patronising them.
It would be helpful if you also have:
Statamic experience, or strong experience with another modern CMS and the appetite to learn it fast.
Frontend awareness - Vue, Vite, Tailwind.
Experience with search platforms like Algolia.
Experience with server provisioning tools like Ploi or Forge.
Agency experience - you're comfortable with pace, multiple projects and shifting priorities.
And importantly you bring energy, curiosity, and a can-do attitude that makes those around you better.
The Process
The interview process is two stages.
Stage one consists of a 30-minute Google Meet call so that we can get to know you a bit better, and you can make sure we're a good initial fit for you.
For stage two, we'll ask you to complete a small technical task based on your previous experience. You will present the outcome of the task to us during a face-to-face interview at our head office and have the opportunity to ask us any questions you might have.
What You'll Get
A fast-paced, high-performance environment that challenges and rewards excellence.
Access to cutting-edge tools and continuous professional development.
The opportunity to work with major brands driving transformational growth.
A culture that values collaboration, ambition, and having fun while achieving exceptional results.
