Robert Hough CBE DL becomes North West Business Leadership Team Life President

The North West Business Leadership Team (NWBLT) are proud to announce the appointment of Robert Hough CBE DL as its Life President. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the North West region, Hough joins an influential group of former NWBLT members, including Juergen Maier, Alan Cockshaw, and Neville Chamberlain.

Robert’s exceptional career includes pivotal roles as chairman of the Manchester Ship Canal Company and deputy chairman of Peel Holdings. His strategic vision has played a fundamental role in shaping the growth of Salford Quays, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, and the hugely successful 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, where he served as chairman of the organising committee and mayor of the games village.

Hough’s tenure as board member and chairman of the North West Regional Development Agency, followed by his successful leadership as chair of the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership further underscores his commitment to regional development.

He is also actively involved with a number of North West universities, including as deputy chairman of the Board of Governors for the University of Manchester.

Jonathan Murphy, NWBLT Chair and CEO of Assura, said: ‘It was without hesitation that I proposed that Robert be awarded the title of Life President. If there was an Ambassador for the North Westregion it would be Robert – his contribution to the area over his many years of service is without compare.

He has not only delivered real change through the many roles he has undertaken – he continues to share his wisdom, expertise and sound judgement freely and with characteristic elegance.’

Robert Hough responded: ’My appointment as a Life President is an extraordinarily proud moment for me.

I consider myself fortunate to have been able to participate in some of the great events of our wonderful North West region and to help its economy and people flourish.

The NWBLT is itself a remarkable organisation, which helps drive the economic, social and environmental objectives of the region for the betterment of our people and businesses.  It has been a privilege to have been involved with so many talented and committed colleagues.'
