We're pleased to share that Alice Breen, a Data Apprentice at Canopius, has been shortlisted for the Apprentice of the Year category at the 2026 Women in Tech Excellence Awards.
The awards recognise women in technical roles, aiming to encourage the next generation of diverse talent into the field, with winners announced on Thursday 26 November.
Alice’s Story
Alice joined Canopius with no prior technical experience and quickly made an impact. Asked to review Insights, a newly launched internal reporting platform, she identified a slow system that was holding teams back.
She designed and led the rollout of a streamlined replacement, resulting in a clearer structure that cut data access times by up to six minutes.
She then went further, migrating data quality rules onto the same infrastructure to reduce duplication across systems. The result was faster, more reliable reporting for our underwriters and claims teams, and wider adoption of a more collaborative, data-led way of working.
Canopius Culture
Her nomination reflects both her quality of work and the initiative behind it: taking ownership of a business-critical tool early in her career and questioning legacy processes rather than accepting them.
Alice’s achievement is a testament to the culture fostered at Canopius, where everyone is empowered to speak up and make a difference from day one.
Congratulations and best of luck, Alice!
