Stockport-based brand and digital agency Dawn has delivered a complete rebrand for Tracks and Layers, the motion and animation studio best known for its work with BBC and CBBC, including Blue Peter and Andy and the Band.
As Tracks and Layers approached its tenth anniversary, the studio wanted a fresh identity that better reflected its personality, values, and creative ambition, rather than just showcasing the work it does for clients.
Dawn’s challenge was to capture what makes the team unique: their sense of fun, emotion, and adaptability, while helping them stand out in the animation world.
Taking cues from the tools animators use every day, Dawn built a new visual identity inspired by keyframes, timelines, and layers. The result is a flexible, dynamic design system that reflects how Tracks and Layers continually evolve with each new project.
At the heart of the new brand is Moti- a colourful, shapeshifting mascot that brings the studio’s creativity and emotion to life. Moti changes colour, shape, and expression to match different moods, giving the brand a playful, memorable personality that shines across digital and motion platforms.
“Tracks and Layers already had a brilliant creative reputation- what they needed was a brand that reflected that same energy,” said Dave O’Hearns, Founder of Dawn. “We wanted to build something that didn’t just look good standing still, but came alive through motion and personality. The result is a brand that truly moves in every sense of the word.”
The new identity extends through every touchpoint, from brand guidelines and digital assets to a new website built with motion-first UX and UI design in mind. The result is a fluid, flexible system that enables the studio to evolve visually as it grows.
The launch has already received strong internal feedback, with the Tracks and Layers team describing the rebrand as transformational for how they communicate their story and values.
The rebrand positions Tracks and Layers for its next decade of growth, ready to stand out not only for the work they produce but for the brand they now embody.
