Reverse Pitch: Calling out for collaboration

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have opened applications for their Reverse Pitch events, a unique collaboration between government and start-ups to co-create innovative solutions to tackle some of the most complex challenges facing citizens today.

The Reverse Pitch events are an opportunity for start-ups to showcase their ideas and collaborate with government teams to address three key problems facing the two departments. Working alongside DWP and MoJ the successful applicants will be contributing to the government's commitment to driving digital change and improving the citizen experience.

Rising to the challenge

DWP and MOJ have identified three key problems they’d like to work with start-ups on.

To start the conversation a series of in person events will be held across our digital hubs where start-ups will be invited to come and discuss solutions to the problem statements and meet the DWP and MoJ teams.

Dates for these events are:

29th October in Leeds

30th October in London

31st October in Manchester

Once selected, these organisations will have the opportunity to work with the DWP's Innovation Studios in Leeds, London, or Manchester over a three-month period, refining their solution and building and testing it with input from stakeholders.

During their time working with the departments, start-ups will be encouraged to:

  • showcase their innovative ideas and solutions
  • Collaborate with government teams to drive digital change and improve the citizen experience
  • Develop skills and expertise through a three-month project with the DWP's Innovation Studios
  • Make a positive impact on citizens' lives and contribute to the government's commitment to driving digital change and improving the citizen experience

  Together we achieve

Andrew Western, Minister for Transformation, Richard Corbridge, CDIO, DWP Digital, and Megan Lee Devlin, Director General, MoJ, have been instrumental in creating this opportunity not only for cross government collaboration, but across industry collaboration.

Andrew Western, Minister for Transformation, said: “We’re committed to fundamentally reforming government to guarantee high quality public services. As part of this, we can look at what start-ups are doing to innovate further.

“Reverse Pitch is a fantastic opportunity for industry to work with government to overcome the complex challenges we face, using technology to solve real life problems.”

"At DWP we are human centred and want to put citizens at the heart of what we do. It is an exciting time to be working in the technology sector. We can use the latest technology to solve real-life problems for citizens to improve the customer experience." - Richard Corbridge, CDIO, DWP Digital

"We’re thrilled to be collaborating with the DWP on the Reverse Pitch events. We believe that collaboration across government to help solve the common problems we share can only lead to better outcomes for our citizens." - Megan Lee Devlin, Director General, MoJ
