Nublue beats fundraising target for Bay Search & Rescue

Yesterday several members of the Nublue team, along with their partners, joined hundreds of fellow walkers and lots of excitable dogs to make the four-hour Cross Bay Walk from Arnside to Kents Bank. Thanks to our supporters, Nublue have raised £300 through JustGiving for Bay Search & Rescue.

Today we’re a little bit achy, and our walking trainers are very much due a wash to get out all that fragrant black mud. But we had a great time walking and talking, slipping and wading yesterday afternoon with our fellow fundraisers – and best of all, we’ve beaten our sponsorship target by a fifth for the volunteers of Bay Search & Rescue. We couldn’t have done this without you, so thank you!

Our Cross Bay Walk

Around midday yesterday we arrived at Arnside and joined the crowd to register for our Cross Bay Walk. The friendly event organisers were without their registration system, so it took a little longer for everyone to get their names ticked off the list – but this just meant we had a little more time for a good natter before we started.

Once we were off though, we were most certainly off. We were pleasantly surprised to be among hundreds of other walkers (we’d expected a few dozen), along with lots of happy pooches as we traced the scenic shoreline– and best of all, the rain stayed off.

When we reached the flat sands of Morecambe Bay, with Heysham in the distance on the far shore, we had a bit of time to chill out and take our shoes off to get the sand between our toes. Setting off again with the mysterious presence of a seemingly random tractor, our guide Cedric Robinson led us on a winding trail over the sands and through warm, ankle-deep water. There was definitely quicksand around us, but Cedric’s years of experience meant that nobody got on the wrong side of it!

Happily, there were dogs. Lots of dogs.

Around four hours later we reached Kent’s Bank station tired, happy and a bit smelly from the black mud of the marsh. We were even greeted with an unexpected round of applause by the small crowd of supporters at the station – all in all a really nice end to a really nice day. Hopping on a coach back to Arnside, we celebrated our victory over gentle exercise with a trip to the pub – and by all accounts, returned to our homes to promptly fall asleep well before bedtime.

We’d just like to say a big thank you to the Cross Bay Walk organisers and to Cedric Robinson for guiding us through the sands. With Morecambe Bay’s shifting quicksands and creeping tides, folks often get into trouble – but the volunteers of Bay Search & Rescue are always on call to help, and to save lives. Keep up the good work folks, and thanks again to all our fundraisers for making our donation possible!
