This event has now ended.

The Citadel project has developed a range "starter templates" for mobile web apps so that people can quickly start to develop apps using open data from public authorities and government.

The starter templates are available through the Citadel Hub and have been developed around specific themes, including:

  • Points of Interest in the city (e.g. works of art)
  • Crowdsourced Points of Interest
  • Parking Lots in the city
  • Events in the city
  • Environmental data in the city

The purpose of the hack day is to:

  • Get feedback from developers about the Citadel starter templates - how easy they are to use to start developing apps, how they can be improved, etc.
  • To help people who want to start developing mobile web apps and increase their development skills
  • To promote open data in Manchester
  • To see what interesting apps people come up with
  • Have fun

You don’t need to be a super geek to get something out of the day (though super geeks are always welcome!). If you’ve got a great idea you can team up with someone who’s got some coding skills.

What data?

Manchester Digital Development Agency is working with partners in Manchester City Council to provide a range of data sets for use during the hack day, including:

  • Environmental data collected from the Lodanet Wireless Sensor Network in Manchester
  • Data from the local images collection provided by Manchester Archives Plus
  • Data from the Manchester Art Gallery catalogue

Please note that the data sets are to be confirmed.

Attendees can keep up to date with the data sets that will be available etc. on the event's blog.
