We have new and exciting opportunities for Data Governance Managers to join and help shape our teams in the Office of the Chief Data Officer.

The successful candidate will work in one of the following areas:

• Data Sharing Advice and Guidance team,

• Data Management and Compliance team,

• Data Accountability – Roles and Responsibilities team.

These teams are part of an ever-expanding Office of the Chief Data Officer (OoCDO). The OoCDO is responsible for leveraging the Department’s data as a strategic asset and oversees a range of data-related capabilities that include Data Strategy & Governance, Data Quality, Data Architecture, Usage & Maintenance, Data Privacy and Data Security. These roles are opportunities to shape and change how the OoCDO integrates and works with the wider Department as the OoCDO matures.

Job description

You will report to a Senior Data Governance Manager and will work closely with team members and colleagues across the Office of the Chief Data Officer

Within the Data Sharing Advice and Guidance team, the successful candidate will:

• Act as a subject matter expert and first point of contact for data sharing related process queries for one or more Business Areas, government departments or third parties.

• Deliver assurance (scrutiny, feedback & advice) of data sharing governance documents, to comply with DWP and regulatory compliance standards.

• Be responsible for ensuring that all users of DWP data understand and follow the Data Sharing Policy, Procedures and Standards and their individual responsibilities around the processes. This will include accountability for developing and conducting training sessions with colleagues across DWP on the Data Sharing Policy and processes.

Within the Data Management and Compliance team, the successful candidate will:

• Perform a vital role in delivering the Department’s information management policy through the oversight of Information Security controls that are in place across the business, including the policy that underpins the Information Asset Inventory (IAI), Data Sharing Inventory (DSI) and overall data management & retention.

• Be responsible for supporting the business to identify any information security risks relating to information management and seeking assurance from the business that these are mitigated appropriately through effective protective controls.

• Ensure data risks are effectively identified, categorised, recorded and managed in each of the business areas, working closely with Risk Governance Boards to implement solutions that will remediate and mitigate against those risks.

Within the Data Accountability team, the successful candidate will:

• Support the development and maintenance of key parts of the DWP Data Governance Framework, Policies and Standards (in line with UK GDPR and the DPA). The Data Governance Framework includes Data Strategy, Data Sharing, Data Enablement and Quality, Data Quality and assurance across each element.

• Identify, develop and support Data roles within the Data Governance framework ensuring clear responsibilities for the stewardship of DWP’s principal data assets.
