DWP. Digital with Purpose.

We are looking for Test Engineers for our Identity & Trust Services team to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.

We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Awareness of non-functional testing techniques e.g. Performance, Accessibility, Security.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Awareness of agile testing, reporting, defect management, delivery principles, and methodologies.
  • Evidence of enthusiasm and ability to continuously learn new skills and develop expertise in test engineering.
  • An understanding of maintaining and refining automated software tests using a programming language such as Java, JavaScript or Python. Demonstrable knowledge of common engineering practices, tools and coding practices.

You and your role

As an Associate Test Engineer, you'll spend your days working closely with other engineers to figure out how to make our services work better and more reliably. A lot of your time goes into creating and improving automated tests, essentially building tools that check our systems for problems so we can fix them early. You'll get involved in how these tests are designed and look for smart ways to make them add real value.

You'll work with the team to make sure the services we build are easy to use, accessible, secure and stable, and you'll learn how continuous integration and deployment fit into that. Part of the job is helping everyone make informed decisions by explaining risks clearly and keeping track of what's been tested, what still needs checking and what's been found along the way.

You'll also help create and manage the test data needed to run good quality tests. And throughout all of this, you'll keep building your own skills, learning new tools, new techniques and new ways to make testing even better.
