How AI can Trasnsform Your Retail Data for Growth

In an increasingly competitive retail landscape, data is everywhere — but using it in a way with AI that drives meaningful results is a different story. For Petstop, Ireland’s largest Irish-owned pet retailer, the challenge wasn’t a lack of data. It was turning that data into action.

Declan Gallagher, Head of Strategy and Finance at Petstop, shares how the company worked with Galvia, an AI-powered decision intelligence platform, to harness the power of AI, not just to optimise marketing spend, but to rethink how they understand, engage, and serve their customers.

Galvia unifies siloed data into a single view of your KPIs, customers, and inventory. It transforms this data into insights, predictions, and real-time prompts — helping retailers drive revenue growth, improve margins, and boost engagement.

The Challenge: Rising Marketing Costs, Untapped Data

“Like every business,” Declan Gallagher explains, “we’re all conscious of what’s on the P&L (the profit and loss account) and we’re always looking to increase profitability.”

One major line item? Marketing spend. Petstop’s team wondered if there was a smarter way to engage customers — something more targeted, more personalised, and ultimately more cost-effective. That’s when they turned to Galvia.

The Solution: RFM Segmentation Powered by Galvia AI

Galvia introduced a customer segmentation model based on RFM: Recency, Frequency, and Monetary value. These are three key metrics that help businesses understand how recently someone purchased, how often they buy, and how much they spend.

Working closely with the Galvia team, Petstop built a model that divided their customer base into eight distinct clusters — from loyal repeat customers to those on the verge of churning.

This wasn’t just another analytics report. Galvia’s AI delivered clear, actionable prompts, helping Petstop tailor communication strategies to each segment.

The Impact: Best Online Sales Since Christmas — Without Paid Ads

To celebrate their 30th birthday, Petstop launched an email campaign that was fully informed by their new customer segments. The results were immediate and powerful.

“I think we had our best online sales since our Christmas period,” Declan shares. “That was a result of working with Galvia Insights and the AI to generate customer segmentation that prompted relevant communication.”

All this without increasing ad spend!  The AI didn’t just improve marketing effectiveness; it made it more efficient.

Beyond Marketing: Store Layout, Customer Experience, and Long-Term Value

While increased revenue is the obvious headline, Declan emphasises that working with Galvia has reshaped much more than just Petstop’s marketing.

“It’s more than revenue,” he says. “It’s about understanding the data. Understanding our customers. How do they shop? What are their patterns? How can we merchandise our stores better to meet their needs?”

Insights from Galvia are now helping inform how Petstop lays out its stores, how it communicates with customers, and how it continues delivering on its brand promise: Happy Pets, Happy People.

Why This Matters for Retailers

Petstop’s AI success is more than a one-off campaign — it’s a clear case study in what happens when AI is applied with intention, in a retail environment rich with opportunity.

  • You don’t need more data — you need smarter ways to use it.

  • You don’t need bigger budgets — you need more intelligent targeting.

  • You don’t need more guesswork — you need AI-powered prompts that drive results.
