Manchester-based web data infrastructure platform Byteful (formerly Ping Proxies) has added Organisations to its platform: shared team workspaces with role-based access control, live on every account from today at no extra charge.
Founded in 2020 out of Spark, the University of Leeds' enterprise programme, and built in Manchester without external funding, Byteful now handles 30 billion+ requests a month for 1,700+ customers from its Deansgate office, and is one of Manchester's fastest-growing technology startups. The company rebranded from Ping Proxies in April this year, and team access was among the features it committed to building into the new platform at the time.
Why It Matters
Most Byteful customers begin as a single developer with a single login. The business grows around that account, and before long a team of developers, finance staff and automated agents are sharing one password and a set of API keys that can do anything the account can. Offboarding meant resetting the password for everyone. Enough customers raised this that the Manchester firm stopped treating it as a feature request and started treating it as a gap in the product.
What Teams Get
Each account now has a personal workspace, and teams can create an organisation beside it or convert the personal workspace into one. Members join with their own login and one of three roles: Owner, Admin or User. Billing moves to the organisation, so a team receives one invoice rather than several.
API keys belong to the workspace too, and can be created as fine-grained keys that carry only the permissions a team selects and expire on a chosen date. That matters increasingly for AI agents, which can be given a key that does one job and nothing else. When a member leaves, removing them from the organisation removes their access, and if they were the owner, ownership passes to another member first.
“Most of our customers start as one person with one login, and the account never caught up with the team that grew around it. Developers, finance and agents all had the same access because we could not tell them apart. Now every person gets a login and a role, and every key does only what you have allowed it to,” said Timur Gok, Founder of Byteful.
Existing customers have nothing to set up; their account is already a personal workspace and current API keys keep working. Anyone wanting details can contact support@byteful.com.
