Job summary

As part of our Digital, Data and Information Directorate, you’ll have the opportunity to help teams turn ideas into digital services that make a real difference to people’s lives.
Based in Manchester, you’ll join a multidisciplinary digital team and work alongside experienced delivery managers, developers, designers, user researchers and other specialists. You’ll help bring people together around a shared goal, support teams to work effectively and help turn plans into outcomes for users.
Our work supports a wide range of people, from citizens and Local Authority colleagues to people working across MHCLG. From large-scale grant programmes and data and analytics to refugee resettlement, the services we support contribute to some of the department’s most important work.
As the department’s central digital function, we provide the technology, platforms and infrastructure that enable teams across MHCLG to deliver their work. You’ll work with colleagues from different backgrounds and areas of expertise, gaining practical experience while developing your delivery management skills and building your career in digital.
About the role
As an Associate Delivery Manager, you’ll help teams turn ideas and plans into working digital services. You’ll work alongside an experienced Delivery Manager or Senior Delivery Manager, learning how to create the conditions for a team to work effectively, manage competing priorities and overcome challenges that could affect delivery.
You’ll play an important role in bringing people together, making progress visible and helping teams continuously improve. Through practical experience, coaching, mentoring and working alongside experienced delivery professionals, you’ll build the skills and confidence to take on increasing responsibility as your career develops.
The role provides an entry route into the delivery management profession and gives you the opportunity to learn from a supportive delivery community while contributing to work that has a clear purpose and impact.

Job description
As an Associate Delivery Manager, you’ll:
- Support delivery: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, helping to coordinate delivery activities and keep priorities, progress, risks and dependencies visible.
- Help teams work effectively: Support agile ways of working, facilitate team ceremonies and use agile tools and techniques to help teams manage their work and priorities.
- Help solve problems: Work with the team to identify and overcome issues that could affect delivery, escalating where appropriate.
- Bring people together: Help teams communicate clearly with stakeholders and users, encourage inclusive collaboration and create an environment where people can work effectively together.
- Learn and develop: Work alongside experienced Delivery Managers and Senior Delivery Managers, using coaching, mentoring, training and feedback to build your skills and take on increasing responsibility.
Person specification
We’re looking for people who are interested in building a career in agile delivery management and who are motivated by helping teams work together to achieve meaningful outcomes. You may have worked in an agile software team before, or be a people-focused project manager with transferrable skills, or simply have helped people work together to achieve a difficult outcome.
As an Associate Delivery Manager, you’ll have:
- An interest in digital delivery and agile ways of working, with a willingness to learn and develop your delivery management skills.
- A practical approach to problem solving, including the ability to identify issues, work with others to find solutions and escalate when appropriate.
- Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to explain information and ideas in a way that works for different audiences, including technical and non-technical colleagues.
- A collaborative approach to working, with an understanding of the importance of positive team relationships, inclusion and creating an environment where people can work effectively together.
- A willingness to learn and take responsibility, using guidance, coaching and feedback to build your skills, confidence and capability over time.
