Job description

Workforce and Capability:

The Workforce and Capability Division is where our mission is to ensure government possesses the necessary talent to drive digital transformation and overcome the challenges ahead. We're dedicated to enhancing the government's capacity to attract, recruit, nurture, and retain top tier digital and data professionals.

As part of the multidisciplinary agile Capability Framework team, you will update and improve content in the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework. The framework describes the digital, data and technology roles in government, and the skills you need to do them. Its content is the basis for recruitment, workforce planning and skills development across the profession.

We work with communities of practice and expert working groups across the profession to continuously review and improve framework content so it is as up to date and usable as possible. You will work closely with the team’s senior content designer to achieve this ambition.

As a content designer, you will:

  • create, improve and manage user-centred content that helps people understand the different digital, data and technology roles in government
  • identify and collaborate effectively with stakeholders to create or update content for roles and skills, making sure appropriate factual checks take place within other government departments
  • identify the needs of users, write user stories, design content plans, create and publish content using a content management system (CMS)
  • develop and apply framework content principles, with support from the senior content designer, to assure the quality of content
  • contribute to the cross-government and GDS content community
  • support with iterative improvements to the framework website’s design and its content strategy to better meet the needs of users
  • support with the creation and improvement of user-centred and high quality content across the Capability portfolio

Person specification

We are looking for candidates with experience of:

  • user-centred content design - creating, improving and publishing user-centred content, and working with content management systems
  • agile working - working in a fast-paced, evolving environment, and iterating and adapting approaches to enable rapid delivery
  • content concepts and prototyping - choosing the best option to make content understandable to different audiences and demonstrate proposed approaches for content improvements
  • strategic thinking - contributing to content strategies or policies and creating content patterns or standards
  • stakeholder relationship management - working with stakeholders or clients to understand their issues while maintaining content quality
  • prioritisation - experience of project management, including the ability to manage and prioritise different pieces of work and adapt to changing circumstances
