As a Senior Technical Architect – Networks, you’ll design and govern secure, scalable connectivity solutions that support diplomatic, government and overseas operations.
About the Digital & Data team
The Digital & Data technology team delivers secure, innovative solutions for government partners, from bespoke systems to cloud migrations for entire embassies.
This role sits within a cutting‑edge architecture function, shaping network services across:
- On‑premise environments
- Hybrid and multi‑cloud platforms (Azure / AWS)
- Highly regulated and security‑sensitive estates
What you’ll be doing
As Senior Technical Architect – Networks, you will:
- Design secure, scalable network architectures across on‑prem, hybrid and cloud environments
- Translate complex business and security requirements into clear, high‑quality designs
- Define and apply architectural standards, patterns and governance
- Produce high‑ and low‑level design artefacts (conceptual, logical, physical)
- Provide technical assurance across delivery programmes
- Balance security, performance and cost in complex environments
- Mentor and guide engineers, architects and delivery teams
- Actively manage architectural risk and contribute to continuous improvement
- Stay close to emerging technologies and evolving threats, keeping the network estate future‑ready

- Is an experienced network or infrastructure architect
- Has worked in secure or regulated environments
- Is confident influencing senior stakeholders and governance forums
- Enjoys mentoring others and shaping technical communities
- Can provide calm, evidence‑based advice when it matters most
Essential experience
You’ll bring:
- A degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Network Engineering or Telecommunications
- Proven experience designing secure LAN, WAN and hybrid cloud networks
- Experience with VMware private cloud and Azure and/or AWS
- Strong understanding of secure network design and protecting sensitive data
- Experience leading architectural governance and reviewing complex solutions
- Ability to communicate complex technical topics to technical and non‑technical audiences
- Holding (or willingness to work towards) certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL, CCNP or equivalent
