We are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Architect who is confident working on products and services in a complex digital environment, where you’ll be supporting major initiatives within DWP Digital.
You'll join DWP’s Technology Services, the foundation of our digital ecosystem. We deliver secure, efficient, and scalable infrastructure that supports millions of daily transactions and underpins critical services for citizens and colleagues.
As Senior Architect, you’ll focus on encryption services within our Identity & Encryption team - specialists safeguarding digital identities and protecting sensitive data. You’ll lead on modernising legacy platforms, migrating services to cloud environments, and introducing automation and self-service to boost resilience and efficiency.
Working closely with architects, engineers, and security experts, you’ll ensure compliance, scalability, and alignment with DWP’s strategic transformation goals. Reporting to the Lead Architect, you’ll shape the architectural direction for encryption capabilities and support delivery of roadmap initiatives in a fast-moving, collaborative environment where innovation and security go hand in hand.

A Senior Technical Architect (Solutions) works with multiple projects or teams on problems that require broad architectural thinking.
At this role level, you will:
- Be responsible for leading the technical design of systems and services, justifying and communicating design decisions.
- Assure other services and system quality, ensuring the technical work fits into the broader strategy for government.
- Explore the benefits of cross-government alignment.
- Provide mentoring within teams.
Person specification
When giving details in your employment history and personal statement you should highlight your experience in line with essential criteria below:
- Identity & Access Management (IAM): Implementing IAM frameworks, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Encryption & Cryptography: Encryption technologies (e.g. SSL/TLS, IPsec, Kerberos, VPNs, PKI) to secure data in transit and at rest.
- Identification, authentication and Single Sign-On(SSO) technologies, tools and best practice, examples including OpenID and OAuth 2.0.
- Architecture design across on-prem, cloud and hybrid environments involving networking, security, presentation, middleware, database, and integration aspects.
- Architecture design informed through use of principles, patterns, technical radars, practices and standards.
- Architecture design working with project delivery teams within agile, waterfall and hybrid environments throughout the lifecycle - from concept to go-live.
- Translating business requirements into technical solutions with traceability that can be demonstrated to stakeholders.
- Architecture design through use of architecture modelling techniques and tools to devise and represent.
