What is this role?

This is a Low Code Software Developer role in HMCTS Digital Technology Services (DTS), helping build and support enterprise‑grade low‑code solutions that keep live operations running smoothly.

You’ll sit in the Tooling Team, supporting business‑critical products used day‑to‑day by Live Operations, including Ardoq, Dynatrace, Jira/Confluence and HaloITSM.

Why this role matters

HMCTS supports courts and tribunals across England and Wales, and the technology behind that needs to be reliable, secure and constantly improving.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Improve how tooling and operational services work across DTS
  • Build secure, maintainable solutions that support real users
  • Work in a multi‑disciplinary team with product, delivery and architecture colleagues
  • Help modernise how services operate through smarter use of technology

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be involved in:

  • Building, maintaining and documenting low‑code solutions (to internal standards)
  • Testing, quality assurance and taking part in reviews to improve quality
  • Designing and developing solutions from user stories
  • Building and testing system interfaces and integrations
  • Supporting and maintaining software (with limited out‑of‑hours support when needed)
  • Keeping a strong focus on security, confidentiality and data integrity
  • Improving ways of working and contributing to delivery planning
  • Mentoring junior colleagues and sharing technical knowledge
  • Supporting recruitment and procurement activity when required

The skills that matter (high level)

This role is a great fit if you’re comfortable with:

  • Low‑code enterprise development using Power Platform or UiPath
  • Building integrations and understanding APIs and cloud environments (e.g. Azure)
  • Working with structured data formats: JSON, XML, XAML and SQL
  • Understanding HTTP (request/response lifecycle, headers, status codes)
  • Front‑end basics: HTML and CSS
  • Using and supporting Microsoft 365 apps like SharePoint, OneDrive and Excel
  • Good engineering practices: security awareness, testing, documentation, maintainability
  • Collaborating confidently with technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Who this role is for

This could be a great role if you:

  • Enjoy building practical solutions that teams rely on every day
  • Like improving tools, integrations and user experience in a live environment
  • Care about secure, well‑documented, maintainable solutions
  • Are confident working with stakeholders and cross‑functional teams
  • Want to grow in a supportive organisation with strong learning opportunities
